I Del Amitrl and Pele Playhouse Theatre, Greenside Place, 557 2590. 7.30pm. £9, £7 .50. The Dels return with a new bunch of hard-luck stories tucked under their sideburns. Their last tour showed that they were getting better at this thing called live performing all the time, so the punters should leave happy tonight despite the general moodiness of most of the band’s material. Pele will provide a dollop of cheerfulness, as they have been doing on the recent Heineken Festivals.

bouncy tune , stacks of crap lyrics and dress sense that flouts the terms of the Maastricht Treaty — but they refuse to go away. And it's all your fault! Or maybe Abba‘s.

I Stockbridge Festival Jubilee Park, Stockbridge. 11am—7pm. 50p (25p). ln amongst the stalls, Punch and Judy shows and that sticky Velcro pursuit ‘Spider‘s Web‘, revellers can thrill to a selection of bands which includes The Vasily Rats, The Night Kitchen, Free Beer(a guaranteed crowd-puller with a name like that), The St Stephen Street Stompers and The Edinburgh Harmonica Band.
I Two Saints and The Unhinged Lord Darnley, West Port, 229 4341. 9pm. £3. From Boston, two former members of the late Johnny Thunders‘ band (from around the time he recorded In Cold Blood), Joe Mazzari and Simon Ritt, continue in the great man‘s tradition with some no-nonsense garage raunch. Support,The Unhinged. feature some of the usual suspects from the Offhooksfl‘hanes scene. I Biverhead Subway, Cowgate, 225 6766. The Edinburgh quartet follow up their ‘Haddit‘ single on the Avalanche offshoot Alva (the one that’s exclusively for Scottish signings) with another single in October, recorded at Fish‘s much-drooled-over studio in Haddington. No doubt, there will be a taster of it tonight.

Tickets from Just The Ticket, Virgin, Union Street, 226 4679. Veterans of ye olde rock crossover scenario along with Living Colour, but largely unsung in these parts until recently. Their Glastonbury appearance and current single ‘Everyday Sunshine‘ could see their fortunes changing. Support comes from the heady, groovy Liverpudlian trio Doctor Phibes who brew a weighty psychedelic stew, and are totally impressive.

I Diana Brown and Barrie ll Sharpe King Tut‘s Wah Wah Hut, St Vincent Street, 221 5279. 9pm. £5. An eight-piece groove machine will, as the single predicts, eat you alive. Watch out for the debut album The Black, The White, The YellowAnd The Brown (And Don ’r Forget The Red Man) , and it might be an idea to memorise the title, just to avoid those embarrassing encounters with record shop assistants.
