Few famous names have inhabited its Edwardian houses and tenements. although the adjoining Links played a major part in the development of the game ofgolf. Nevertheless. it has evolved into one of the more fashionable areas of the city. with its numerous delicatessens and smartly-renovated tenements.
Like Morningside it has developed rapidly since the 1880s. when electric trams and the Edinburgh and South Side Suburban Railway brought new residents and city amenities. The trams and trains have long since gone ofcourse. but the excellent shops. cafes and village atmosphere remains.
