WEDNESDAY 10 Glasgow

I Diana Ross SECC, F innieston Quay, 248 3000. SOLD OUT. The glamorous diva shimmers with the aid of her purpose-built wall-of-sequins garb, indulging her ‘living legend’ status to the max. No complaints about the artiste, it’s just the way that she wastes her talentson slushy middle-of-the-road bailadeering. I The Disposable lleroes or lllphoorisy and Fenn lm Bru Rox, King Tut‘s Wah Wah Hut, St Vincent Street, 221 5279. 8.30pm. £5. lrn Bru Rox kicks off with the most interesting and apposite line-up of the week. The Disposable Heroes rose to prominence a couple of months ago with a reworking of their old band The Beatnigs ‘Television‘ and are consolidating now with an album that is full of righteous anger without threatening to kick your head in. Penn, now a three-piece once more, wield aggressive guitars but seek to exhilarate rather than intimidate.

Edinburgh

I Silverfish and Hair And Skin Trading Company Venue , Calton Road, 557 3073. Taut, thrashy tunes and confrontational yelping from the Livingston fizzbomb Lesley, the diminutive dreadlocked Fuzz and the other two. You’ll probably have caught them at the Fugazi show (seeing as how the whole population of Scotland turned out); now’s your chance to witness them without the sauna conditions. Hair and Skin Trading Company feature Neil and John from Loop and will therefore be brilliant.

I Precious Little Else Bertie‘s, Merchant Street, 225 2002. 10pm. Free.

I Shriek and Sessionhead Apollo, Renfrew Court, 332 6231. 9pm. Free. Err-Rhythm Kitten Roz Caimey gets her strong vocal style behind some strident indie rock songs. Could be something worthwhile developing here, and Clawfist Records seem to think so having offered

them the chance to record a single while the group are still in their infancy.

I Sidewalk Legend‘s, Thorn Brae, Johnstone, 0505 35818. 9pm. Free. Scotland’s answer to Pavement. Well, maybe not.

I The Mississippi Shakes Twa Corbies. Kilbowie Road, Cumbernauld. 0236 727473. 9pm. Free.
