The storyline remains the same. the songs (by Paul Williams who also stars as the baddie) are almost as bad as Lloyd Webber's. but Brian De Palma‘s direction is reliably scary.

He enlists the aid of fellow desperadoes Kevin Kline. Kevin Costner and Danny Glover and heads for the lawless town of Silverado. ruled by a despotic sheriff (John Cleese). Uneven. but generally fun.

I Whicker’s World - Down Under( Channel 4) 8—8. 30pm. Whicker meets some ofthe migrants from Britain who have found success in the sun. and embraced the Australian way oflife.
I On The Edge: Improvisation In Music (Channel 4) 8.30—9.30pm. The third programme in the innovative music series features the work of Max Roach who teaches jazz improvisation to Harlem schoolchildren. Butch Morris. the inventor of conduction — improvised conducting— also appears.

The erudite quiz returns for the 20th consecutive year. hosted as ever by grim lcelander Magnus Magnusson.
I Screen Two: The Object Ol Beauty(BBC2) l0—l 1.40pm. John Malkovich and Andie sex. lies and videotape MacDowell star as an attractive American couple killing time in an expensive London hotel and wondering how to pay the bill. Sellinga small Henry Moore sculpture seems a possible solution. but the couple cannot agree on a course of action. and much of the film is taken up with their squabbling. A slight. uninvolving tale somewhat overplayed by the principals.
MONDAY 17
I Evening Shade (Channel 4) 8.3twpm. Burt Reynolds stars in a new sitcom as ex-pro footballer Wood Newton taking a job as a school sports coach in a small town.
I Underbelly(BBC2) 9—9.55pm. A new four-part political thriller topically following the story of a millionaire property speculator Stephen Crowe. Crowe (played by Glasgow Citizens‘ stalwart David llayman) is sentenced to three years in prison after a majorfraud trial.
I Coast Of Dreams (Channel 4 ) 9— lllpm. The first of a two-part documentary about Britons who have made their home on the Costa Del Sol. The first programme looks at Mike and Betti Thompson who have run the Bees Knees pub for over five years. I bet they sell Watney‘s Red Barrel.
I thirtysomething (Channel 4) l()—l().55pm. The nauseating l lope gets upset because Michael shows no empathy for her work with the homeless. Where's Jeffrey Dahmer when you need him'.’

I Murder Squad (Scottish) 9— 10pm. Scotland Yard allowed film cameras to follow their famous Murder Squads in action. The third programme in the series looks at the Noel Christopher case.
I Without Walls: For Love Or Money (Channel 4) 9- ltipm. The art collection show goes to Amsterdam to report on how the Dutch are accusing an American restorer of ruiningone oftheir greatest works of modern art.
I Rides ( BBCl ) 9.3(i—lt).2()pm. Jill Baker stars in a new drama series as Patrice Jenner art ex-army type running an all- women taxi firm. Oh. just like Glam Cabs in the classic Carry On Calibre I hear you say. Well not exactly. Rides is somewhat more gritty. as you‘d expect from the makers of Ten/m.
I Quantum Leap ( BBCZ) 9—9.5(ipm. Scott Bakula as the time-trapped scientist Sam Beckett finds himself incarnated asa Shoshone Indian living in Nevada in 1970 attempting to help his granfather reach the reservation to die with dignity.
I 40 Minutes: She Married A Liter(BBC2) 9.5(L 10.30pm. ‘Sbe‘ being Marie Curtis who met her prisoner husband Tom after he had served two years of hislife sentence. She is one of a numberof women who actively seek relationships and marriages with long-term prisoners.
