Open House Music presents: Edinburgh‘s spirited Pure Blind Panic. whose first slab ofvinyl should be hitting the shops soon; Peter Jagger And The Jaggernauts. a blues band from London with a superb harmonica player: and Big Huge Massive. who are mainly known at the moment for their covers of songs by bands like The Levellers and Men They Couldn‘t Hang. which probably isn't fair to them at all.

Me. 1‘11 settle for a passionate run through the chiming melodies of their terrific debut album Spooky. Brighton‘s Spitfire should provide a charged alternative to their shimmering veneer with some dirty retro grunge and hipswivelling antics. while Dundee‘s Fuel should fit in more snugly with the headliners. Fuel have just signed a publishing deal with Rhythm King music and have an EP. Songs In The Key OfE. out now on Midnight Music and an LPby early March. I The Cardiacs and The Last Minute Venue . Calton Road. 557 3073. Dipstick quartet (well. there were only four ofthcm last time we looked) who can unleash some powerful and unusual guitar numbers amongst the quirks. Levitation‘s Bic Hayes used to play with them and they number Blur amongst their insanely loyal fans. A cult band ifever there was one. In all their years together they‘ve never played Scotland before. so even in this month of great gigs they’re well worth a look-in. We should also mention the support. The Last Minute. whose long-playing tape. Poles Apart. is on sale at gigs. Remember to take along enough cash to buy it should the band grab you. I Kith And Kin and Pure Blind Panic Music Box. An inspired pairing of two local bands who both. in their separate ways. have taken elements of folk music (from around the world in Kith And Kin‘s case) and grafted them to a sturdy rock‘n‘roll base. giving them potentially wide appeal.
