and Miniatures Until 20 Apr. An exhibition devoted to the life's work of one of Scotland’s better-known 19th century watercolourists. As a painter of portraits and miniatures, MacLeay received commissions from many of Scotland‘s landed families and from Queen Victoria herself. His landscapes are less celebrated. but several fine examples are included here.

A Rare Spirit Until 29 Mar. Central tothe Museum's ‘celcbration‘ of whisky is a 50 year-old pure malt Scotch. distilled at Glenfiddich. Dufftown. between 1937 and g 1939. and of which only 500 bottles have been produced. There will also be some 50 whisky-orientated artefacts. including pistols owned by Robert Burns when he was an exciseman. and a collection of silver quaichs.

Masterpieces for Scotland Until 22 Feb. An opportunity to view an important collection of art recently acquired for Scotland under the ‘Acceptance in Lieu‘ scheme. The works. two Gainsboroughs. a Rubens and a rare painting by Hercules Seghers. belonged to Hampshire landowner Eva Borthwick; she submitted them to the Treasury in settlement of a tax liability of £6.5 million. on condition they be passed to the RSA for exhibition.
