I Don’t Tell liar It's Me (12) Sad excuse for a comedy has Steve Guttenberg donning leathers and a New Zealand accent in order to win himselfa girlfriend after suffering a serious illness. This film has virtually nothing to recommend it.
I Driving Me Crazy ( 12) The ubiquitous John Hughes pens another sub-standard comedy. this time with a businessman driving his fiancee‘s obnoxious son across America.
h I Frankie and Johnny ( 15) The director of Pretty Woman serves up an slightly overdone romance between short-order cook Al Pacino and waitress Michelle Pfeiffer. See feature.

I Ll am liamalne (PG) (Jean Renoir. France. 1938) Jean Gabin. Simone Simon. J ulien Carette. Femand Ledoux. 99 mins. A classic example of pre-war French poetic realism. Renoir's updating of Zola's novel captures all of its naturalistic spirit. Jacques Lantier (Gabin) is a train driver who falls in love with the beautiful wife of his stationmaster. who has already killed her former lover. A wonderful melodrama. shot against the smoke and steam of the Paris-Le Havre railway. Edinburgh: Filmhouse.

Joss Ackland. 93 mins. tEvil robot versions of that most excellent duo totally kill our heroes. causing them to take on the Grim Reaper at party games. make a quick visit to Heaven and eventually win the day. A triumphant sequel. slightly more coherent than the bodacious original - in Bill and Ted terms. at least. General release. I Billy Iathgate (15) (Robert Benson. US. 1991) Dustin Hoffman. Lorin Dean. Bruce Willis. 107 mins. Fairly dull adaptation of the Doctorow novel has local kid Lorin Dean suitably impressed by the sophisticated evil ways of gangster Dutch Schqu (Hoffman). Flashes of violence. but suffers from a little too much Grey Suit Syndrome. General release. I III“ Runner (15) (Ridley Scott. US. 1982) Harrison Ford. Rutger Hauer. Sean Young. 117 mins. A tough cop tracks down a group of malfunctioning androids in this gritty hi-tech retread of Raymond Chandler. executed with Scott‘s customary visual flair. and with strong performances. especially from Ford and Hauer. Alison Steadman. 79 mins. Three men - mild mannered clerk Mr Orton. lecherous Mr Horton and hit man Mr Lawton — are confused by the bellboy at their Venetian hotel. Hilarious premise. huh? Strained comedy is the cinema equivalent of the local amateur dramatics group's production of the headmaster‘s third-rate farce. General release (week 2). I Ll Mm (PG) (Luigi Comenchini. France/ltaly. 1987) Barbara Hendricks. Jose Carreras. Luca Canonici. 106 mins. Puccini‘s celebrated opera is set in a wintry Paris in 1910. and follows the fortunes of a group of young artists as they freeze in their garret. with only the thought of romance to warm their hearts. Fine opera movie that works on its own terms as well as remaining faithful to the text. because the artificiality of the original perfectly matches Commenchini‘s melodramatic. studio-based style. Edinburgh: Filmhouse. I M! I TM flood ( 15) (John Singleton. US. 1991) Cuba Gooding Jr. Larry Fishburne. Ice Cube. Morris Chestnut. 112 mins. A poignant depiction of life in the rundown suburbia of South Central Los Angeles by debut director Singleton. A group of teenage friends try to keep their heads above the never-ending flood of reprisal killings. but find that it is all too easy to get sucked into the violence. Geraldine James. 102 mins. A young woman (Reeves) arrives for a holiday at a Suffolk resort. meets an artist (O‘Hara) on his annual trip and. hey presto!. falls in love. But then her husband arrives. Prettily photographed. but underneath it seems to be yet another British tale of (Victorian) ladies breaking out of social repression. a la Forster. Edinburgh: Cameo. I Mlflln Up III! Zany gal Hepburn causes timid zoology professor Grant to lose a valuable dinosaur bone and mislay a pet leopard within the course of one screwball evening. Archetypal Thirties crazy comedy with one outlandishly hilarious scene following another within the progression of an unerringly logical narrative. Both stars at their charismatic best. Glasgow: GET. A landmark of expressionist cinema. feasting the eyes with bizarre. angular visuals despite its technical crudity. The acting and directing are superb. and the story of a fairground hypnotist who uses a Sleepwalker to carry out murders still retains a unique sense of horror. Glasgow: GFT. John Sayles is still at the forefront of the American independent film movement. His latest work examines the urban dynamics of a 19905 working-class community. centring on the civic corruption and old-style blue-collar honesty that surrounds the construction industry.
