Mixed night at the gay venue has some of the worst publicity posters I have ever seen — you know the ones. with a man emerging from an egg that looks like the jacket ofa tacky sci-fi novel. That's no reflection on the club though. which is an entertaining dance night.

I Chopper at Club Xchange. I lpm—3am. £1 with leaflet/UB40/matric card. Beware punters: Club XChange bouncers are rigidly enforcing a students-only policy. so unless you can get hold of a matric card or a free pass, don‘t even bother approaching - they bite. If you do get inside. you‘ll find Rory and Lindsey of Tankin‘ ‘fame' playing an across-thc-board mix of alternative and dance faves. from Billy Bragg to Blur to The Beatles. to an across-the-board sort of crowd that‘s surprisingly big for a Wednesday night. Then take away all the good-time atmosphere. most of the punters and add some men in suits and girls in stilletoes. 80s classics. Motown and a few new chart hits. If you hear a single record all night that you don't immediately recognise — what are you doing out drinking at your age'.’

I Beathox, Altered States and Strangeways at Teviot Row Students Union. 8pm—lam. Students £l/guests £2. Three separate clubs on three separate floors playing very different music from the Manchester/ Techno sounds of Altered States to the the indie/goth of Strangeways. £150.000 has just been spent on improving the lights and sound system so Teviot looks like being as popular as ever.

I Blitzkrieg at Shady Lady's. 10.30pm—4am. £2. Punk/New Beat/goth. anything remotely ‘alternative‘ really. With rockabilly sets throughout the night. I Blue Oyster Club 11pltt—4am. £1 before 12.30am/£2 after. Busy gay club with the usual mixture of Hi-NRG and disco. Relaxed and great fun.
I Bubblegum at Potterrow Students Union. 8pm—lam. Students £l/guests £2. Still trying to shake off the goth reputation of a few years ago. Bubblegum will certainly be indie but not necessarily in the shoe-gazing mould. Look out for a Sarah Records night on 15 Nov with The Field Mice and The Wake.

I The Citrus Club llpm--4am. £5. So far this is proving to be the busiest night of the week at The Citrus Club probably due to the excellent line-up of guest DJs they have had since opening. The trend continues with Kevin llurry attd Kevin Swain (20 Dec). Lofty and Scott Braithwaite (27 Dec). a Most Excellent party with Justin Robertson (who has just remixed the Fini Tribe‘s ‘Ace Love Deuce' single) and Greig Fenton (3 Jan) and. finally this issue. Nicky Holloway and Shoom (10 Jan).

I Millionaires 10pm—6am. £3 members/£5 non-members. Mixed club that due to its late licence attracts hardened drinkers and clubbers like moths to a flame. Music supplied by resident DJ. Flip.
I The Paradox Club at Calton Studios. 10.30pm-5am. Members
£S/non-members £6. Cubik DJs Davie. Brian and Kelly. join up with Ross to present an increasingly popular night which thankfully avoids relying on Techno to pull in the punters. Look out for the chill-out room upstairs. 20 Dec only there will be a five-hour sponsored ‘danceathon' with all profits to the Sick Kids Appeal. The best dancer will receive a £50 clothes voucher.
