Personally his watered-down blues workouts make me feel about a hundred years old and sap me ofthe strength of feeling necessary to form an opinion.

I The Colour Wheel and Mnaga a Zdorp King Tut's Wah Wah Hut. St Vincent Street. 221 5279. 9pm. £4. Glasgow‘s Colour Wheel (remember. The Catherine Wheel that were '.’) are supported tonight by a band who have been acclaimed as‘the Czechoslovakian equivalent of The Smiths‘. albeit with saxophone and keyboards. Their singer. Petr: found himself ostracised by the communist regime for daring to send a tape ofthe band to the BBC. and if you want to know why they were considered enemies of the state. they 've translated all their lyricsinto English for this tour.

The Scottish Pride set offon a trek which culminates, in a months time. a mere 40 miles away. at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. At time ofwriting. Ricky Ross was nursing a sore throat, which we hope will carry him through this tour without his voice giving out on him. And we thought his vocals on lie/low Hoodlums we re meant to sound like that. I Nirvana. Captain America and Shonan Knife Calton Studios. Calton Road. 556 706. SOLD OUT. Did anyone see Nirvana‘s Kurt Cobain sporting a Captain America T-shirt on The Word recently? Captain America‘s Eugene Kelly returned the favour the next night at a BMX Bandits gig by wearing a Nirvana T—shirt. though whether he shared Kurt‘s opinions on the shagability of Hole‘s Courtney Love went unrecorded. Anyway. you can‘t argue with record sales and despite a lengthy two-year wait between albums. Nirvana are poised to become the biggest American import since Sonic Youth. Captain America back the release oftheir debut EP on Paperhouse and Shonan Knife by all accounts are some mad Japanese sub-karaoke casualties.
I The Sandkings and Machine Gun Feedback Potterrow Student Union. Potterrow. 667 0214. Yet more harmless jolly japery in the style of— wait for it— The Wonder Stuff. Wolverhampton‘s Sandkings have survived so far by virtue of enthusiastic live performance as opposed to memorable songs. Vocalist Jaz Man thinks he‘s a star, the band obviously love what they‘re doing. but those ofus standing up the back are shuffling our feet
