This design by Alison Bailey Smith won her the Bacardi Rum Scottish Fashion Designer ofthe Year award at The Tunnel Club in Glasgow last week. The hat, bodice and shoes began life as copper wire covered with coloured lacquer for insulation in the back ofTV sets. Alison edges the wire with material bound up well to produce the striking and surprisingly wearable results.
Bruce Oldfield headed the panel of judges and was at The Tunnel to present the prizes in this annual competition which highlights young design talent in Scotland. This year’s theme required the entrants to ‘Capture the Energy ofScotland after Dark‘ by creating an outfit which reflected the vibrancy ofthe Scottish club scene. There were eight shortlisted finalists whose designs were made up and modelled at the special fashion show.
More details ofthe competition can be found in The List‘s special supplement The Fashion Show, your guide to fashion in Scotland, which is published in conjunction with Bacardi Rum and PR Consultants Scotland.
