I Engine Madisons. Greenside Place. 10pm—4am. £3. Third visit to Madisons for the Birkenhead blues/rock trio. formed in ‘79. Generous blokes that they are. they postponed their debut gig at the Marquee last year to lend a stranded Dan Reed their equipment. And should James turn up to the Playhouse without a drumkit. who knows. they might do the same again.

The Mourning After will be supporting The Fuzztones in December. and it‘s easily seen why: they're a ballot manic energy shot through with faithful psychedelic organ and a singer whose rasping yelp contorts the white brat-punk vocal style one further. As their name hints. support group The Crumps play pure Cramps-a-billy.
