I The Scottish Arts Council has approved a new ‘arts-for-all' blueprint in the hope ofeliminating discrimination of any kind within the art world. The new policy will not just affect the position ofstaff working in arts organisations. but the consumer: it is insisting that more be done to welcome the broadest spectrum possible of visitors to arts eventsand that accessibility for the disabled. or people with small children be improved. Ideally. ethnic minority languages will be used in publicity material and information for the blind or partially-sighted will become available in Braille. While the policy is bound to be welcomed by most arts patrons. there is inevitany some suspicion as to how it will actually be put into effect. Will it. for example. put an end tothe disparity between the number of male and female artists awarded solo shows? lThelounders olthe Collective Gallery have announced that they badly need funds to help refurbish their new premises in Cockburn Street. Founded in 1984 by a group of both young and established artists. the gallery has consistently encouraged and promoted the work of little-known and emergingartists. something which they hope to better in the new. larger space. To help raise money for the move. there will be an art jumble sale in the gallery. at 166High Street. Edinburgh and the Collective are asking for donations ofany unwanted or partially- used materials. hardware or equipment. I Princes Street pedestrians in Edinburgh. may have noticed that the usual hoardings around the Scott Monument have been replaced by a mural. The project was originally proposed by artist Andrew Crummy. his idea being to paint a mural around the monument which would reflect Edinburgh‘s achievements in art. sport. religion and
