Once there. her malicious ways grind their innate bourgeois decency to powder. until she meets her nemesis. . . 1t alisounds rather enjoyable. and Chelton's performance in the title role is ajoyous creation. but a sadly predictable and underwrought structure take the bite out ofa promising-looking satire from the director of Life Is A Long QuietRiver. With an element of uncontrived human compassion lurking throughout the gloriously expensive action sequences. as Swarzenegger‘s cyborg develops human feelings. this is more than just a $100 million fairground ride. The buddy/road movie genres are turned on their heads as Sarandon and Davis grasp the steering wheel and head offleaving a trail ofmurder and mayhem in their wake. On one level. the film isthe critical catalyst that had the feminists cheering and put the stars on the coverof Time magazine; just as importantly. it's an accessible piece ofentertainment with excellent central performances. A film of commendable openness about the needs of the senses and men‘s facility for emotional expression. its true achievement is how it turns the stuffof farce into an intense hybrid ofwistful comedy and romantic passion.
