92 The List 9 15 August 1991

I The Network 10.30pm-2.30am. £3 (£2

* before 11.30pm). New club, with 1300

capacity, aiming to cheer up the club scene in Paisley, now with a weekly spot by Radio Clydc‘s grooviest DJ well, let‘s face it, their only groovy DJ apart from Cap‘n George Paul Welsh, playing a mix of dance tunes.

I Radio City at the Mayfair (Cameo Suite). 10pm—2.30am. £2. Now more or less entirely 905 rave and indie dance, with the odd 60$ rock toe-tapper too.

I Rumble at Joe Paparazzi.

llpm—3.30am. £3.50 (£1 .50 student). Sadly looking a little lost now in the cavernous expanses of Joe Pa'pps, but still an excellent night for just the right balance in my opinion, which of course everyone is bound to share between indie dance, rap and techno. Not too hot, not too pricey, plenty of seats and brilliant music— goon, fill it up!

I Shag at Fury Murry‘s. 1 1pm-late. £3. Enjoyable mish-mash of indie-dance , pop, classic chart hits and silly singalongs. Plus free chocolate.

I Smile at Hollywood Studio3.

1 1pm—3.30am. £2.50. Late 60$, mid-80s and modern indie is the recipe for this new regular night the real name of which is slightly too difficult for this word processor. Their extensive playlist includes 808 State, 1000 Homo DJs, DAF, MC5, REM, AAAK, YMCT, KLF, New FADS, Clock DVA, Psychic TV, BAD, BDP, KMFDM, and possibly even EMF. Okay, now it‘s competition time, chums: spot the deliberately fake acronym, and guess what it stands for, and you could win, er, The List Trainspotter OfThe Year Award. Exciting, huh?

I Temptatlon at Strathclyde University. 9pm—2am. £1.50. Students and guests only. Tam Coyle’s indie-dance bonanza is the only club in town to play the new Blur single or do you know better?

I Time Warp Rock Club at The Venue. 10pm—late. £2.50 (£6 for weekend ticket). They‘re amenable to requests, but basically it‘s a mixture of rock, metal, thrash, punk, goth and ‘good indie sounds' rather than heavier stuff, ie you can probably dance to it as well as nod your head a lot. All drinks£l.

I The Alhambra 8pm—midnight. Free.

I Bennet's llpm—3.30am. £2.50.

I Calhouse at Hollywood Studios.

1 lpm—3.30am. £2.50 (£1.50 with ticket). Rock club.

I Cleopatra’s 10.30pm—2.30am. £3.

I Follles10.30pm—3.30am.£3.50(£1 before 11.30pm).

I Hard Rock Carla at the Venue. 10pm until late. £3.50.

I Panic at Glasgow College Student Union. 9pm—2am. Free. Students and guests only.

I Rattles 10.30pm—3am. £3.

I Savoy llpm—3.30am. £4.

I Stomp at Mardi Gras. 10.30pm-3.30am. £3.50.

I Xposed at Club Xchange. 11pm—late. £2.50.

Saturdays

I Atlantis at the Sub Club. 11pm—3.30am.

£6. House and techno sounds in an underwater atmosphere actually, that’s a complete lie, there isn‘t a strand of seaweed to be seen, but nevertheless still crowded, still trendy and still pulling inthc numbers.

I Bliss at Rain. 375 Sauchiehall Street. 11pm—late. £4 (£2 student). Dance grooves with Larz and Flash, mostly upfront and house. Watch out for drinks promos.

I Club Classics at Glasgow University Union. 9.30pm—1 .30am. £2. Students and guests only. Mainstream music to chat up by, mostly chart dance and techno.

I Detect at Fury Murray's. 11pm—late. £3.50. Dance music and 805 pop forthe medium-hip student types.

I Divine at the Art School. 11pm—2am. £2. Deee-groovy 605 pop and indie faves ofa psychedelic persuasion - clothes and complexions spotty, but music coherently good.

I Dream Sequence at Rooftops (Secrets lounge). 10.30pm—2.30am. £2. A good selection of indie dance faves in congenial atmosphere with your host ‘Smiling’ Tam Coyle.

I Heller Skelter at the Mayfair. 10pm—2.30am. £2. Sixties rock, mod sounds, psychedelic trips: that‘s that Helter Skelter feeling.

I The Network 10.30pm—2.30am. £3. Upfront dance in Paisley, fronted by The Orb with their posse of techno groupies. I Time Warp Rock Club at The Venue. 10pm—late. £2.50. More 60s and 70s rock along the lines of Friday night.

I The Tunnel llpm—late. £6. Big upfront dance night for the well dressed more60s grooves in Room 2.

I Wild at the Cotton Club. 11pm—3.30am. £4 (£3 with flyer). Radio Clyde‘s George Bowie plays dance music and good-time party music which sounds pretty ominous to me with the occasional company of fire-eaters or singing tramps, so I‘m told. Ifyou’re the sort ofperson who describes themselves as ‘wacky‘ or ‘bubbly‘, then you‘ll probably go overboard for this.

I YoYo at Rain. 1 1pm—3.30am. £5. DJs Larz, Wilbur and their pals play underground house and garage. Doing well in the trendy stakes, plus drinks promotions.

I The Alhambra 8pm-midnight. Free.

I Bennet's llpm—3.30am. B.

I Calhouse at Hollywood Studios.

1 lpm—3.30am. £2.50 (£1.50 with ticket). I Cleopatra’s 10.30pm—2.30am. £3.50.

I Desire at Mardi Gras. 10.30pm-3.30am. £3.50.

I Follies 10.30pm—3.30am. £5.

I Glam Rock at The Venue. 10pm until late. £3.50.

I Hollywood Studios llpm-late. £4. Under-18$ disco. 7.30pm—10.30pm. £1.50. I Joe Paparanl's llpm—3.30am. £5.

I Libra at Hollywood Studios. £3.50. Over-25$ disco.

I Mardi Gras 11pm—late. £4.50.

I Rallies 10.30pm—3am. £3.

I Savoy 11pm—3am. £4. Over-21$ night. I Strathclyde Unlverslty Union 9pm—2am.

£2.50. Students and guests only.

IThe Tunnel Under-18$ club. 7.30—11pm.
