I Century 2000 10pm—4am. Over 21 s only. From 9 Aug: the opening night of this new state-of-the-art club, on which no lessthan £1 million has been spent. You‘d never guess that it was the old Amphitheatre. Featuring Radio Forth‘s ‘Steppin‘ Out‘ DJ Tom Wilson, with the Bacardi Dance Chart.

I Chapllns at Finsbury Park. 1 1pm—4am. £2. Another centre-of-town ‘disco’. You know the score.

I Dateless/Crumble at The Mission. 10.30pm—3am. £2.50. Some confusion exists as to what to call this, but basically it‘s another club of the same persuasion as Shag, ie lots of bad-taste good-time party music. 1 think you really have to be inthe mood. Or deaf.

I Fireball Club at the Complex Hotel, Penicuik. 9pm-1am. £1.50. Same crew as Edinburgh‘s Top Ten Club, same music policy too. Bit far away, but then I suppose ifyou live in Penicuik then it‘s not really . . .

I Fringe Club at Teviot Row. 9.30pm—2am. Free with Fringe Club Membership. From 9 Aug: a club within a club, featuring the turntable talents ofthe Shag lads; a duo who have built upa considerable reputation aided and abetted by juvenile sexual innuendo, a piayiist comprising of B-movie soundtracks, and a propensity for handing out free chocolate. Unpretentious dance music basically chart pop from the past fifteen years or so. I Mambo Club at Network3. 10.30pm—4am. £2. Scotland‘s only regular world music club, which just gets busier and busier. Sir Ossie on the wheels of steel mixes the best in African dance with calypso and soca around the world stylee. Go and pretend you‘re in a warm sun-drenched paradise. It might be difficult in the Network, but there‘s no harm in trying. . .

I Marley’s Reggae Klub at Network 2. 10.30pm—4am. £2. A reggae night (asif you couldn’t guess), still running after an

incredible thirteen years. Can be a little retrospective at times. but nevertheless always busy.

I Madison's Bock Night 9pm—3am. £2. Pretty self-explanatory this one.

I Millionaires 10pm—6am. £2 before 2am, £3 after. Favourite late night hang out of clubbers. club runners and those who just won‘t go to bed. Dark, crowded and unbelievably tacky, but still fabulous. With the luvverrly Phillip, playing upfront rave tunes. house and a few old disco faves.

I Networkt 10.30pm—4am. £1 before midnight/£3 after. Yup, you guessed it. Mainstream chart disco.

I The Paradox Club at Calton Studios (downstairs). 10.30pm-4am. £4. ‘Set free your mind, body and soul. We will elevate, excite and enchant you‘. Oohh, promises. promises. But this new club, specialising in continental imports, ‘bouncy’ balearic beats and piano house played by DJs David Gillan, Ross Millan. Brian Dixon and Stuart Kelly might just do that. Featuring on 9 Aug a live set from Emmanuel. I Pure at The Venue. 11pm-4am. Members and guests only. With a bpm count higher than the US budget deficit, it‘s not hard to see why this has earned a reputation as a dance club of some Lreknown. Heavy techno played to several

much needed) twice-weekly club with resident DJ 5 Bootsy and Gareth. and warm-up DJ John, presenting dressed-up dance sounds (that‘s garage, piano house. ltalo house, funk and disco) to a discerning crowd. Currently the place to be seen and with good reason. Well worth a visit if you haven‘t ventured down already or even if you have . . .

I The UN Club at the Calton Studios. £4/£3.50. From 8 Aug: all the way from Brighton for the festival, the UN crew present a different club every night ofthe week except Saturday. On a Friday it‘s Sister Ray‘s an alternative dance extravaganza.
