I London's Tate Gallery has invited nominations forthe 1991 Turner Prize. sponsored by Channel 4. The nominee must be a British artist under fifty and the prize. worth £20.000. is awarded for an outstanding exhibition or other presentation oftheir work in the twelve months preceeding 30 June 1991. I The Scottish Arts Council. in conjunction with Glasgow Art Galleries and Museums. is offering aTraineeship in Exhibition Organisation to be based at the McLellan Galleries. The traineeship is open to anyone living or educated in Scotland and comes with a bursary worth £9,500. The recipient will work with the GAGM's Exhibitions team for eighteen months and take special responsibility for the New Art Season at Kelvingrove. as well as visiting other British galleries and attending formal training courses. Stanley Spencer: The Apotheosls of Love Until 16Jun. A centenary tribute to Stanley Spencer (1891—1959). this isthe first exhibition to realise Spencer‘s ‘Church House’ project in which he hoped to fuse religion and worldlincss. Some of his most striking works depict the Resurrection against a Glaswegian backdrop. John Buckland Wright (1897—1954) Until 9 Jun. An important British printmaker represented here through his 1920s work. surrealist images of the 1930s and copper and wood engravings which celebrate the female form with affection and lyrical sensuality. New Arts Season: Nong Sam-Dam Until 16 Jun. Hong is a political prisoner in South Korea and much of his work was destroyed at the time of his arrest because of its ‘subversive‘ promotion of democracy. human rights and the reunification of North and South Korea. but some of his woodblock prints and hangings. depicting recent historical events. still survive. The prints in this
exhibition were bought by Glasgow
Museums through Amnesty International. '
