GLASGOW Fridays
I Frealt Out at Rooftops (Secrets Lounge). 11pm—3am. Swinging 605 and laid-back 70$ rock, pop and dance, from an ex-Helter Skelterer.
I Club Karina at Tin Pan Alley. 10.30pm-late. £3 (£2.50). 3 May only. Monthly club with a Latin feel, but also playing jazz and funk and featuring live percussion playing. A tapas bar (Catalan spicy pancakes) also helps to create an unusual atmosphere and should save you running out to the nearest pizza shop after working up an appetite on the dancefloor. I Crash at the Cotton Club. 11pm—3.30am. £3 (£2 with matric card or before midnight). Unpretentious (apart from some of the punters), long-running and well-respected indie crossover/dance/groove night with a loyal crowd.
I Devotion at the Art School. 9.30pm—2am. £1 .50 (£1 students). ‘Student music’, soul and house, apparently. so there you go. And drinks promos.
I Earth at Rain, 375 Sauchichall Street. llpm—3am. £3.50 (£2 with matric card). Rare groove, soul and bass dance night building up quite a following, with DJs Nick Peacock and Harri. Watch out for drinks promos.
I Icon at the Sub Club. 11pm—3.30am. £3.50. Replacing their long-running and highly successful Joy, Icon is the brave new hope for the Slam crew which they‘re hoping will make a name for itself with a slightly more ‘disco‘-based house style, but don‘t worry, l’m sure they don‘t mean The Village People. Lots of big-name guest DJs.
I Radio City at the Mayfair (Cameo Suite). 10pm—2.30am. £2. Sixties rock

‘These’ll lticltl’ Five danceiloor predictions irom Glasgow’s answer to Soul Ii Soul -the Slam posse. Promoters, producers, club runners and much, much more; catch them at Icon (Fridays) and Atlantis (Saturdays), both at the Sub Club.
1. Botany 5: Nature Boy (Slam mix) Heavy, repetitive, subtle and yet strong Euro tool in a 71/2-minuteiormat- no worries!
2. Mock Turtles: Can You Dig It, Yeah! Mr Steve Proctor’s mid tempo anthem - if you love the Primals’12ins,you'll adore this (especially the B-side).

liYC biggest club hit, with the Bassment boys in control - a bit ol a sing-a-long.

5. Sheer Tait: Atlantis
Another Slam production (plugl), named after our Saturday club. Piano sure to cause ‘dancelloor devastation’ (do what!)
merging surprisingly well with 905 rave, with the odd dance record thrown in too. I Rumble at Joe Paparazzi. 11pm—3.30am. £3.50 (£1 .50 student). The only problem with Rumble is that it‘s so dark, so big and so popular that ifyou’re hoping to see friends there you really have to arrange it well in advance. Personally, l wish they wouldn‘t inflict full half-hours of bleep-bieep-twiddle on us, but those cavernous green shapes the lasers throw up keep boredom at bay during them. See you on the stairs at half-past one.
I Shag at Fury Murry‘s. l 1pm—late. £3.
Enjoyable mish-mash of indie-dance, pop,
classic chart hits and silly singalongs. Plus free chocolate.
I Temptation at Strathclyde University. 9pm—2am. £1.50. Students and guests only. New look to Level 8, with
DJ -about-town Tam Coylc dishing out his usual enjoyable indie-dance sensations for the studes. Level 4 remains its usual sub-Sub Club self.
I Time Warp Rock Club at The Venue. 10pm-late. £2.50 (£6 for weekend ticket). Yet another new venue for the Time Warp, as the plucky little rock club shifts from Club Hacienda. They‘re amenable to requests, but basically it‘s a mixture of
rock, metal, thrash, punk, goth and ‘good indie sounds' rather than heavier stuff - ie you can probably dance to it as well as nod your head a lot. All drinks £1.
I The Tunnel 11pm—3.30am. £4. Rap, house. techno and dance music in well~trendy atmosphere - goggle at the lack of clothes taste and try to guess just how much those skimpy little shorts cost. I could do without the cavortings of those 'dancers‘ on pillars, though.
