separate section for residencies. Gigs are listed by date. then by city. Dates will be listed. provided that details reach our offices at least one week before publication. Rock and Blues Listings compiled by Alastair Mabbott and Fiona Shepherd.

Into Paradise I Into Paradise King Tut‘s Wah Wah Hut. St Vincent Street. 221 5279. 9pm. £3.50. lrish band with a big. panoramic guitar sound. as once expounded by the likes of Then Jerico. and ranting (occasionally preachy) lyrics flung out from singer David Long‘s personal soapbox. For those who like their emotion ostentatious. I Dolphin City Glasgow School OfArt. Renfrew Street. 332 9797. 9.30pm. £2 (£1). I Potean Crash. Cotton Club. Scott Street.3320712.11pm.£3(£2). Apparently a ccilidh band. which seems to deviate ever so slightly from the usual

“"0”

Crash menu.

I Fiaere Nilssen Trader‘s. Glassford Street. Happy Transatlantic space cadet with guitar who enters trance mid-song. Not long for these parts. so catch her while you can.

I Criminal Minds Christie‘s. Main Street. Alexandria. 0389 57799. 9.30pm. Free. Ex-Heavy Pettin‘ snoozerama.

I Journeyman Johnny Scobie‘s. London Road. 552 3204. Free. Rock and blues.

Edinburgh

I The Real People Venue. Calton Road. 557 3073. 7.30—10pm. Potentially the biggest group to come piling out of Liverpool since The La‘s. and upholding many of the musical values of that city with just a trace of the oh-so-fashionable drum

sound.

I Africa Crisis Charity Ball Assembly Rooms. George Street. 7.30pm—2am. £10. Tickets from all student unions and Virgin. Princes Street. or by calling 226 2763/228 2429. A black tie event. with music from Red Hot And Blud. Rhythm Chillun. The Gist. All-Star Jazz Band. and special guests. Free buffet by Negociants. I The Television Personalities and The Probes Basin Street. Haymarket Terrace. 337 1006. Back so soon? Still.can‘t complain. The TVPs have been producing

' music of quality and distinction since

before most of the indie bands oftoday were out of short trousers. To be held up in times to come as a seminal group. Until then. well. they keep on slogging round the circuit.

I Bailterspace and Riverhead Potter Row Student Union. Potter Row. 667 0214. Students and guests only. Now comprising all three former members ofThe Gordons whose work was one of the high water marks of the fertile New Zealand music scene Bailterspace lose themselves in a trance-inducing space where lyrics seem like an afterthought and guitar, bass and

drums drive each other on to ever-greater heights. Edinburgh's Riverhead are a more orthodoxly melodic guitar band. but have started to amass a following through gigging and their Avalanche-released single.

I Wildlile Preservation Hall. Victoria Street. 226 3816. £1 after 9pm.

I Spider Street Negociants. Lothian Street. 225 6313. 9.30pm. Free.

SATURDAY 4 Glasgow

I Christy Moore Barrowland. Gallowgate. 552 4601. 7.30pm. £8 plus booking fee. Tickets from Just The Ticket. Virgin. Union Street. 226 4679. See preview.

I The Orb The Tunnel. Mitchell Street. 204 1000. 11pm. £7. The Orb are (is?) about as influential and respected as you get in the spirit-of—the-moment dance world. providing ambient anthems for New Age converts. or inflicting torpid tedium on Luddite purists. depending on which way you care to look at their atmospherics.

I The Real People King Tut‘s Wah Wah Hut. St Vincent Street. 221 5279. 9pm. £4. Sec Fri 3.

I Pride And Joy Blackfriars. Bell Street. 552 5924. 9.30pm. Free. Local band along the lines of Deacon Blue and Hue And Cry with reputedly good vocals.

I The Rootsie Tootsie Blues Band Renfrew Ferry. Clyde Place. 429 2683. Part of Ferryfest.

I Johnny Satellites Halt Bar. Woodlands Road. 332 1210. 9.30pm. Free.

I The Amazing Jimmy Brock Experience Johnny Scobies. London Road. 552 6863. 9pm. Free. Ever-increasing numbers at this songwriter‘s gigs.

I Lust No Love Clubhouse. Old Sneddon Street. Paisley. 889 4706. 8.30pm. £2 on the door. but should you track down a band member previous to the gig you only

WITNESS.

The new Single

Light At The End Of The Tunnel

From the Album “House Called Love” CD and l2”feature previously unavailable tracks

have to pan with a paltry £1 .50. Plus guests.

I Vizion Christie‘s. Main Street. Alexandria. 0389 57799. 9.30pm. A charity night. with other bands to be confirmed.

I No Quarter Tudor Lodge Hotel. Burnbank Road. Hamilton. 0698 457277. 9pm. £1.

Edinburgh

I Sweet Addiction and Electric Daisies Bedrock Club. Venue. Calton Road. 557 3073. Southerners Sweet Addiction have their debut LP out on Survival Records. and Cumbernauld's Electric Daisies have been garnering praise for their funk-metal sound. More interestingly still. their drummer claims to be the great-grandson of Edvard Greig.

I Leathertace. 0i Polloi and Jimmy Saville’s Wheelchair Moray House Student Union. Holyrood Road. 556 8455. 9pm. £3.50 (£3). The first Rock AgainstThe Rich event in these parts since Joe Strummer wowed ‘em at Coasters has three uncompromising bands playingto raise money for Class War and Edinburgh Anarchists.

I The Lurkers and Just Another Dream Basin Street. Haymarket Terrace. 337 1006. Once pegged as Britain's answerto The Ramones. The Lurkers haven‘t weathered the years too well. but they‘re still here. and. when the going was good. at least managed to stay at the forefront of the second-division punk pack. The tireless gigging since their reformation suggests that. as unlikely as it might seem. a Lurkers revival (though no one bought their records in the first place) isn‘t necessarily out of the question.

I Woodrow Wilson's Louder Than Hype Platform One. Rutland Street. 225 2433. Excellent local soul singer and his band. I Boo Badley Negociants. Lothian Street. 225 6313. 9.30pm. Free.
