I Hairy Cafe Coste. 10pm—2am. FREE. A new pre-club club organised by the owners ofthis laid-back bar. and run by various well-known city DJs. including Carol. formerly of Spanish Harlem and infinity. (Question — is she the only female DJ currently working in Edinburgh? Correct me ifl‘m wrong. but . . .) Anyway.the emphasis here is fixed firmly on fun. with an eclectic playlist incorporating a wide spectrum ofdance sounds. Worth a visit. i reckon. (And ifthere are any other women DJ-ing out there — let me know.) I Floral Blot Network 2. 10.30pm—4am. £2. Full of mop-top student types flopping their fringes to the likes ofJames. Stone Roses and other current new-wave faves. Hot and sweaty and horribly busy. but inevitably enjoyable. Watch out for a few guest appearances in the near future. following their recent Teenage Fan Club coup.

I Karaoke Night Cafe Royal Bistro Bar. Rpm-1am. FREE. Jumping on the Karaoke bandwagon with the newest. biggest machine in the city. A cross between state of the art Japanese technology and a good old-fashioned sing-song. this provides a great opportunity to get rat~arsed and make a complete anti utter idiot ofyourselfin front ofthe assembled company. Getsa trifle tedious after the sixth tuneiess rendition of ‘My Way'. but good for a giggle nevertheles.
