FORCE
‘Our club is very, very underground. We don't expect anybody to recognise any of the tunes. We don’t expect anybody to recognise any of the PAs. But hopelullythere is an element in Edinburgh who are adventurous enough to accept such a concept.‘
In 1989, two local lads went to London in search of lame and lortune. Twelve months were spent working in clubs, gathering knowledge, accumulating over 2000 hardcore uplront rave records. Now, Cutmaster B and DJ Kris have returned, with an ambitious plan to reinvent their home city's scene.
‘In Edinburgh nobody knows the true concept ol rave. And that is sad. What we are going to do is introduce that to them.’
Going underthe label or Freeze lorce,
the boys aim to run a club catering for
serious clubbers, playing house all night long in a trouble tree environment. Holding a rave, in tact.
Avoiding accusations of elitism, they
reckon that their role is an educational one, initiating Scotland to a sound that is something entirely ditlerent‘ Southern, in its approach.
‘People up here just play anything,’ Kris explains dismissively. ‘In London people are attracted to a club because they have never heard any 01 the records and aren’t likely to hear them again. In Edinburgh, people are attracted to a club because they will hear Happy Mondays records. We want to change that.’
Could be what we've all been waiting for.
