MUSIC/ROCK
WEDNESDAY 29
Glasgow
I Birdland and Angel Eye King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut. 272a St Vincent Street. 221 5279. 10pm. £4.50. More blonde bombshells with high opinions of themselves. lfthey didn‘t take themselves so seriously. their energetic power-pop might be a joy to behold. because the insanity of their live performances does push towards full scale deflection and on a good night can beat all-comers to pulp. Watch with an open mind and take with a kilo ofsalt.
I Comedy of Errors Shelter. 7 Renfrew Court. 332 6231. 10.30pm. Free. Hard rock.
I Free Base Traders. Glassford Street. 552 5826. 10pm. Free.

I Dawson. Pregnant Neck and The Keatons
Kasbar. The Cowgate. 226 2072. Noisy indie stuff from Dawson. whose EP on the Gruff Wit label gets the Peel seal of approval. Definitely soulmates of The Stretcheads. Pregnant Neck, as if it need be said, have one of the best names around.
I Heart Industry Leadbelly‘s. South Clerk Street. 662 4731. It must be three years since Heart Industry last appeared in the listings. At the time they played a rather lightweight pop/rock. Things may have changed in that time.
I Bo'Weevii Preservation Hall. Victoria Street. 226 3816. £1 . Blucsy stuff.
I Trio Lligo Hill Street Theatre, Hill Street. 225 7294. 12. 10am. £3 (£2.50). Until 1 Sept. See Sun 26.

THURSDAY 30 Glasgow
I Capone and the Bullets King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, 272a St Vincent Street. 221 5279. 10pm. £3. Glasgow’s greatest exponents of the ska sound - not that there are many other ska bands in the city—
return with their newly-revitalized line-up. Possibly less of a brassy emphasis than before. but still bags of swing.
I The Love Decree Studio 55. Bruce Hotel. Cornwall Street, East Kilbride. 035 522 9771. 8pm. £2. Having notched up a considerable number of gigs over the summer. The Love Decree are wisely channelling their energies in the direction of live performance, stakingtheir reputation there rather than in the more transient realm of advertising.
I Badgewearer and Vatican Shotgun Scare Demo Disco, Traders. Glassford Street. 552 5826. 9.30pm. Free. A fitting and exciting double bill here. Glasgow‘s Badgewearcr have been picking up good reviews for their ‘This Bag is Not aToy' single. while Vatican Shotgun Scare. from Edinburgh. are more (or less) of the same — spikey guitars. spikey vocals. spikey humour. all betraying an early-Banshees influence. I The Brasshoppers Cafe Bar. Glasgow‘s Glasgow. The Arches. Midland Street. 204 3993. 9.30pm. £2. Tickets from the Ticket Centre. Candleriggs. 227 5511 or on the door. This Liverpudlian band‘s Afro-Latin funky R&B (honest!) proved infinitely more palatable than it sounds last time they played the Cafe Bar. I Spiral Dance The Shelter. 7 chfrew Court. 332 6231. 10.30pm. Free. l‘mtold Spiral Dance perform tuneful rock along the lines of their putative mentors Simple Minds and Deacon Blue.So understandably they‘re proving quite popular round these parts. I Fresh Air Fortnight Halt Bar. 160 Woodlands Road. 332 1210. 9pm. Free. Rhythm‘n‘blues. I Big George and the Business The Studio. 12 Shuttle Street. Paisley, 889 6867. 9.45pm. Free. Residency. Edinburgh
I The Pearliishers, Last Minute and Excellent Rain Venue. Calton Road. 557 3073. An unfamiliar name. but a familiar band — Hearts and Minds. in fact. who have enlisted the talents of former Simple Minds manager Bruce Findlay. and

changed their name after finding outahout an American band also called Hearts and Minds. The change of name coincides with a short Scottish tour and renewed interest from London record companies. Support Last Minute were runners-up in last year‘s McEwans/Lisr demo competition. and Excellent Rain are a revamped edition of Swing Shift. with a single planned for the nearfuture.
