DN FORM
‘The company keeps going on sheer commitment, determination and dedication,’ says Doreen McArdle oi annexe Theatre Company and Writers’ Group. ‘It’s incredibly difficult because we have to light for every penny we get. I don’t think that the proiile oi the company reflects the level oi determination and the risks they take.’
McArdle is the company’s administrator and, illustrating the collective nature of Annexe, also the writer of ‘C’mon Get All’, one of the three plays which make up Annexe’s contribution to 1990.
Togetherwith ‘Dolorossa’ (by Doothles creator, Peter Murray) and ‘For His Namesake’ by Alan Hayton, ‘C’mon Get Aft’ will present the usual Annexe blend of earthy humour and poignancy. All three plays may be perlormed on a relative shoestring but Annexe will never resort to the age old excuse of ‘minlmalist sets.’
‘Annexe perform miracles with the funding that they get,’ says McArdle. “The writer always gets priority; we will cutback on other things but we will give the writer’s play the best production that we can possibly afford. We cut comers elsewhere.’
