I Close Lobsters PST Club Studio. 12 Shuttle Street. Paisley. 889 6867.£1.50. The welcome return of a locally-based indie group who were on the brink ofa high profile a few years ago. but sank back instead. Judging from previous outings. this could be quite enjoyable.

I John Martyn Pavilion Theatre . Esplanade. 0292 265489. Martyn has been known in the past to send reviewers to sleep. but solo sets witnessed in the last few years have been charged with intensity and good-humouer joking in equal measures. A master oflullingtextures. Martyn puts his eclectism to tasteful and effective use. For this tour. we hear he will be backed by a band — a rarity these days.
Edinburgh
I World Domination Enterprises Venue. Calton Road. 557 3073. 9pm—midnight. Experiencing World Dom's debut LP was like having one‘s head wired into the mains in a thunderstorm. its successor. an odds-and-ends live and remix
compilation . was a patchy mess. Thankfully. live shows are more like the former. Formidable three-piece noise machine.
I Jesse Garon and The Desperadoes Floral Riot Club. Network. West Tollcross. 228 3252. 10.30pm—4am. £2. A gigto celebrate the release of their new LP. Nixon. a fabby collection ofsongs to make you go ‘Avwv gee'. and similarly upful noises. The Desperadoes are Quite Good. I Dave Robb and The Film-Matters and The Retugees Moray House Student Union. Holyrood Road. 556 8455. 10pm—2am. £3 (£2). Students and guests. A good double bill here. Edinburgh‘s best-known bouzouki player. and improving songwriter. and his band play their first set here in a while. perhaps to get their ‘chops‘ and ‘licks‘ off for their Reading Festival appearance on 24 Aug. Hot on their heels come The Refugees. with a clutch ofsongs with R&B. blues and country influences. They‘re already an attraction in their own right. so it should be a good night.
