On a brighter note. coach Neil Menzies has been given the responsibility for coaching the national outdoor women‘s side. Menzies. who has won 35 outdoor and five indoor caps for Scotland. will continue to coach (iuytech Western. His first major test will come in the Home Countries Championship. which are taking place in Aberdeen at the end of the month.

And just as England have thwarted Scotland's Triple Crown aspirations on numerous occasions in the past, so current iorm suggests that England will disappoint Scottish hopes again.
While it may be premature to acknowledge England’s rugby pre-eminence, at least in the Northern hemisphere, they do seem to possess precious lew positional weaknesses.
In the set pieces England are potentially more poweriul and athletic. It’s diiiicultto imagine Wade Dooley or Paul Ackiord giving much in the Iine~out, and the same must apply to England's iront row where Brian Moore, at hooker, has had an outstanding season so iar.
In truth, England—who employ the highly qualitied services oi Scots athletics coach, Tom McNab — are so much more able at keeping the ball

Should the Scots’ back row be sucked into resisting English iorwards, driving iorward with the ball in their hands. one oi the few strong cards that the Scots might consider playing could be denied them. match hardened. The game against the Welsh will have had the eiteci oi keeping the Scots on iheirtoes, while the English have had a month's lay-oil. Also, there will be plenty oi pride at stake. With Jim Aiiken’s1984 Grand Slam victory still very much in the mind, perhaps David Sole can lead his men into a gargantuan eiiort.
