The first is a monologue by Chekhov featuring a hen-peeked husband addressing his wife‘s school for girls. The second is Joe Orton‘s holiday camp farce. Orton is done justice. but Chekhov loses out. the award-winning Mandela Theatre Company joins forces with American Connexion to direct the British premiere ofthis 1986 American drama by Robert Clyman. The play is based around the emotionally charged issue of premature childbirth and around the dilemma ofa
couple faced by the prospects of bringing a severely handicapped child into the world.
Winner of a couple of awards State-side. When the Bough Breaks is a challenging play about a difficult problem. Gregg Ward and Donna Orlando star. The show plays The Tron in Glasgow in The List‘s next issue.

As a lunchtime taster for The Winter's Tale, Canopy Theatre present Aileen La Tourette‘s exploration ofwhat happened in the 16-year time gap in Shakespeare‘s play. She spent a whole year in Poland working. researching and writing this new play for Strip Search Theatre Company. The company itself hasjust completed a tour of Poland, so expect this production to be very authentic. It is about the lives of three Polish women asthey react to the stresses of Poland‘s history. Having outlasted all the pantos, Cats finally comes tothe end of its run. Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s feline musical is an elaborate and entertaining, if ultimately forgettable, reading ofT.S. Eliot‘s Old Possums~ Book ofPractical Cats. Dating from 1981 ,it marked the revival of the British musical as a viable economic proposition for the 19805.
