GLASGOW Fridays
I Joy at the Sub Club. 11pm—3.30am. £3. Pulsating house rhythms. melodies. beats and basslines. Feel the heat as you dance your cares away in the ultimate busy. sweaty. sticky atmosphere. The best night of the week for house in Glasgow.
I Radio City at the Mayfair (Cameo Suite). l0pm—3am. £1.50. Radio City has been quite a success story that seems to have gone unnoticed by most people. Populist they ain‘t. but ifyou‘re intolate 60s psychedelia and rock (and 805 as well) this is the best place. as countless Glasgow Uni students will tell you.
I Shag at Fury Murrys. 11pm—3.30am.£2. 12in white label imports from Chicago at Shag are about as rare as a sighting ofMo Johnston in Glasgow‘s pubs and clubs recently. Don‘t expect to see ‘super‘ Ally or any other football ‘stars‘ frequenting Shag as there will be no Luther Vandross or George Benson either. What there will be is pure lovable pop (especially early 80s) amongst an unpretentious. mixed fun-loving crowd.

Saturdays
I Bennets 1 lpm-3.30am. £3. Glasgow‘s best gay disco (well. its only) has moved on in recent times from playing exclusively Hi-NRG to a mixture ofall high bpm dance sounds. Currently very popular is ltalia disco. Balearic beats and the many derivatives that make up ‘house‘. Look out for suprise special guest PAs.
I The Choice 11pm—3.30am. £4. The most exclusive venue on Saturdays has all the new fashion collections by the likes of Hamnett. Basi and Gaultier on video for you to drool over. Make sure you‘re dressed up to the nines as well or you could be disappointed. Upfront dance mixed by Segun. Lars and your host Colin Barr.
I Heller Skelter at the Mayfair.
l lpm—3am. £1.50. NOT a Heavy Metal night thank you very much. but cult heavy rock favourites from the late 605 and early 70s when ‘guitar solo‘ was not a dirty word.
I Insomnia at The Warehouse.
1 1pm—3.30am. £4. Insomnia is attractinga very young. wild crowd just now. with only one thing on their minds—dancing! Any vacant space inside has someone in big white trainers bobbing around to the loud. thumping. commercial house.
I Sub Club 11pm—3.30am. £4. lfBennets on a Tuesday is already a Glasgow
institution. then the Sub Club on Saturdays isn‘t far behind. For well over two years it has been the most fashionable venue and is consistently busy. The only problem is trying to dance and breath when it gets predictably mobbed.
I 2 Hip and Mixed Up at PanamaJax. ilpm—3.30am. £3 before midnight. £4 after. ‘2 Hip‘ for garage. funk. house and hip-hop. ‘Mixed Up‘ for chart. soul and alternative. Two clubs running simultaneously.
I UFO at Tin Pan Alley. 10.30pm—3.30am. £5. At a fiver entrance. this unfortunately will put Unlimited Freak Out past a lot of people‘s budgets. particularly students. Having said that. this looks like one ofthc best clubs to open in a long time.Top Hacienda DJ John Da Silva will be up every week with Mike Pickering and Graeme Park joining him once a month. DISCOS

I Boys. Boys, Boys at SW1 . £1 .50 (5(lpwith a ticket) What‘s the next line again? ‘l'm looking for a good time.‘ Says it all really. BBB is an alternative night. No. this doesn‘t mean they‘ll be playing the latest indie faves but their clientele is a mixture of gay and straight. A good mixture of anything considered to be dance music shall be spun by the DJ.
I Choice. 11pm-3.30am. Fantasy FM. (£6 for the Boxing Day Party on the 26th. £3 on the 2nd).

Thursdays
I Blackmarkef at the Sub Club. llpm—3.30am. £2. My favourite ofthc Slam Crew‘s three nights at the Sub isJoy. but if the music at Blackmarket doesn‘t quite reach the high standards of Fridays it makes up for it in atmosphere and mobility (ie it isn‘t quite so busy! ).
I Choice 11pm—3.30am. 21st only. £4. CONFUSION Christmas travellers rave — ‘airhorns & whistles in full effect.‘ 28 Dec only: the Fantasy FM Glasgow DJ Mixing Championship. This should be interesting. ten of the top DJs battle it out to see who gets voted No. 1 by the guest panel.
I Fury Murrys 1 1pm—3.30am. Live music sessions with disco. Check Rock listings for band details and prices.
I Terra Hera at the Mayfair. l 1pm—3am. £2. Terra Nera suffers from the same problem as Underground . . . brilliant music (Latin. reggae. African. soca. etc). but the atmosphere is virtually non-existent. A club like this needs intimate surroundings. but I‘m afraid the Mayfair is as intimate as a breezy barn. The potential is there though.
