price £2.75 (£3.50). The Brunton Theatre mounts its own version of this George Orwell adaptation which was first seen at the National Theatre. The stylised movement in this political allegory will resemble that of the theatre‘s highly popular version of The Jungle Book.

The Anniversary Until Sat 11 Nov. 7.30pm. £2.50. A black comedy by Bill Macllwraith. revolving around a woman whose possesiveness defeats two of her sons and infuriates her third. It‘s only the interference ofone son‘s fiancee that breaks the stalemate. Davidsons Mains Dramatic Club bounce through the farce. Bedroom Farce Thurs 16—Sat 18 Nov. 7.30pm. £3 (£2). (Booking enquiries on 667 6494). Proceeds of the Thurs 16 performance will go to SPCA. The Mercators present Alan Ayckbourn‘s comedy for which the back-stage crew have had to rustle together three double beds of totally different specifications. Director is Maragaret Tomlinson. a professional drama tutor. who also directed the Mercators‘ golden jubilee production of Pride and Prejudice. The action moves from bedroom to bedroom as four couples enact their individual stories.
Waters of the Moon Wed 22—Sat 26 Nov. 7.30pm. £3 (£2). N.C Hunter's 1951 atmospheric and comic drama is staged here by Edinburgh Civil Service Dramatic Society. it tells the tale ofa groupof wealthy extroverts who get caught in a snowstorm and are forced to land upon a run-down hotel and its unsuspecting guests. Jealousy. romance. tenderness and comedy follow. Kenneth Mackenzie directs.

from this year‘s Edinburgh Fringe. The Wilde Player‘s tragedy is set in an institutional home for the elderly and the ‘mentally confused’ where two ofthe inmates strike up a love affair. Don‘t be put off by the grim setting. this German translation is well worth seeing.

production about Eva Braun. Hitler‘s salesgirl mistress whom he married just before theirjoint suicide. and Unity Mitford. the upper-class compulsive rebel who shot herself when the country she loved declared war on the man she adored. Foursight Theatre specialise in women‘s biographical theatre.
The Last Egg Thurs 16 Nov. 7pm. £1 (50p). For some reason Lee Gershuny prefers to be known as Leeala which may or may not have some bearing on her play about a barren woman and a suicidal egg. which is given a first reading by Edinburgh Playwrights Workshop. A discussion follows. as well it might.
Bentley's Butcher Tue 21—Sun 26 Nov. 7.30pm. £2.50. Director and writer. Mary Cassidy. is the latest person to benefit from a Traverse Springboard Commission to help develop her skills in creating new and innovative theatre. Her play follows a series of mysterious events sparked off by the disappearance of the local drama teacher. See Preview.
