CHOICE GATHERING
Danny McGraln, one of Celtic and Scotland’s finest ever lull-backs, was never one to shlrk a challenge. Thus when theLillie Art Gallery in Milngavle suggested he choose ten works at art to be shown In their forthcoming exhibition ‘Take Your Plck', he was delighted to comply. ‘i'd never really done anything like this before, it was a brand new experience for me.’ As ior his choice, ‘l suppose it's the old cliche, liust chose what I like. They were different things - some still tiles and some crazy ones as well. I didn't go for any particular style, probably 'ceuse i wouldn't really imow which one to go lor.’
The show, which will appear at Paisley, Dumlries, Ayr and Kilmarnock, is an imaginative example of subjective preferences in art. For lens at McGrein, who have cheered his Inclslve tackling irom the terraces during his long and successlul career, it will provide an unexpected opportunity to examine his particular artistic preferences. Anatoly Zhlgalov and Natalie Abaieitova: Works 1961-89 28 Oct—3 Dec. New Beginnings. Two of the central figures in unofficial Soviet art since the early Sixties feature in an exhibition charting the development oftheir work from 1961 . and documenting their lives as artists without official status. The two will also be discussing their work and showing videos of their performances on 28 Oct at 2.30pm. Also the exhibition organiser. Olga Sviblova. will give an illustrated talk on current trends in art in the USSR. on 29 Oct at 2.30pm.
