I The Coca-Cola Hit Man Roadshow Playhouse Theatre. Greenside Place. 557 2590. SOLD OUT. An under-18s only gig. with Kylie Minogue kicking out lhejams to show that she can really cut it in a ‘Iive situation'. as they say. Support comes from The London Boys. Sinitta. Sonia. Big Fun and Hazel Dean. whose name seems to come from a past era ofpop music in such company. Only a few months after Jason Donovan‘s visit as well — how can we claim to be in aculturally deprived backwater?
I The Flying Pickers Queen‘s l lall. South (‘lerk Street. 668 2019. 8pm. £6 (£5). Long time no hear from the bunch that brought us the Christmas smash ‘Only You‘. and a gig that‘s only recently been announced. How much of an audience do they still have left after the last few years'.’
I Junior Manson Slags Venue. (‘alton Road. 557 3073. The name. you might think. says it all. And you might be right. Sleaze-rock supremos bring long hair and grimy leathers totown.
I The Lezli R Band (‘ollege ofArt. Lauriston Place. 229 1442. Solo venture for accomplished and established keyboard player.
I Live music Basin Street. llaymarket Terrace. 337 1006. 8pm—midnight. Unconfirmed. but of an independent and hopefully maverick nature.

Edinburgh
I All About Eve and Summerhill. Playhouse Theatre. Greenside Place. 557 2590. 7.30pm. £7.50. £6.50. So Glastonbury '89 was the hippest event of the decade. The continuing rise of hippie hangover All About Eve shows that the more things are a-changin'. the more they stay the same. Boosted their credibility by singer Julianne Regan's refusal to mime on Top ofthc Pops. Half-Glaswegian support band Summerhill attracted enough attention for Polydor to snap them up. and the chiming guitars on their new single may prove quite seductive.
I The Soup Dragons Calton Studios. Calton Road. 556 7066. See Singles
Reviews.
I The Duireboys Venue. Calton Road. 557 3073. ‘The Quireboys are at the level now that Dogs D‘Amour were six months ago. They're going to be the next British rock act to make it big.‘ Not a word [can quibble with there.
I Anti-Poll Tax Hallowe'en Party Moray House. Holyrood Road. 5568455. 9pm—2am. £2 (£1). Heard The Dangleberries‘ name in a club over a year ago. and hoped they'd take it to the stage of gigging. just so 1 could see it on posters. They‘ve actually filmed a brief slot which may make it on to Halfway to Paradise. Plus guests. disco. party games ‘and lots of fun'. Organised by several local anti-poll tax organisations.

SUNDAY 29
Glasgow
I All About Eve and Summemill Barrowland. 244 Gallowgate. 552 4601. 7.30pm. I‘ve always had a soft spot for All About Eve. as their music certainly says more for them than either their image or their association with The Mission. Summerhill have their first single out on Polydor. ‘Here 1 Am‘. released on 5 November.
I Hearts and Minds. Brooks and Slave Trade Videodrome. 3339 York Street. 221 0441. 9pm. Although I seem to have said this every time they have played this year. it surely won‘t be long until Hearts and Minds are signed. Two strong support acts make it worth going early.
I The Duireboys The Mayfair. 47o Sauchiehall Street. 332 3872. 9pm. Glam/heavy rock. with all the attendant posturing.
Edinburgh

MONDAY 30 Glasgow
I Fish and The Flame Barrowland. 244 Gallowgate. 552 4601. 7.30pm. lthought the Marillion split would help me decide whether it was Fish 1 disliked or the band. In the end I think it was both.
I The River Detectives Pavilion Theatre. 121 Renfield Street. 332 1846. 7.30pm. The first gig of this size for the band. whose debut album has done good business in Scotland. despite a tepid response in the music press and south of the border.

I Tom Robinson Band and Cry Belore Dawn Strathclyde University Union. 90John Street. 552 1895. 9pm. £3. Benefit forthe Nelson Mandela Scholarship. with the reformed TRB and a promising lrish rock band. who know how to mix subtlety with epic. grandiose sounds.
I Hullabalou Fixx. 86 Miller Street. 248 2859. 10pm. Free. First important gig fora local band. whose strongly percussive sound owes more to Santana than anyone else. Their demo suggests something refreshingly different. even ifit is still at an early stage of its development.
I Planet Pop Bruce Hotel. Town Centre. East Kilbride. 9pm. Fun rock and roll band. featuring George Miller and Eugene Reynolds.
I Naitan Halt Bar. 160 Woodlands Road. 332 1210. 9pm. Free. Weekly folk session.

I Silent Falls and Root Love Finsbury Park. South St Andrew Street. 556 1020. 9pm. £1 . Silent Falls are selling copiesof their six-track demo in their native Fife. and although it's no great recording it's certainly enough enticement to come along tonight. Root Love. from Edinburgh. provide similarly approachable songs.
I The Peristalsis Brothers Negoeiants. Lothian Street. 225 6313. 9.45pm. Free. A welcome return for a band which has been in the past such a pool of local talent.
I The Rootsies Duo Snatchers. High Street. 225 7191 . 9pm. Free. See Fri 27.
THURSDAY 2 Glasgow
I Paterson's Volunteers Esquire House. 1487 Great Western Road. 334 9491. Reports so far vary from ‘brilliant‘ to ‘hilarious‘ — so I think the conclusion is that this should be seen.
I Remember Fun. The Wilderness Children and Wildhouse Admiral Bar. 72a Waterloo Street. 221 7705. 8pm. £2.50. Soundsfrom the indie end of the spectrum ofvarying quality.
