THE FLDPPY DISCO ON THE ROAD
Where PM in Glasgow’s clubs are concerned, they usually lall into one at two categories-the dance label hopeluls who prance around and mime their latest single or the has-beens who periorrn their one hit and all the ‘old lavourltes’ lrom the Sixties or Seventies. Luckily, we’ll have no such theatrlcs when radical electro samplers The Irresistible Force come to Glasgow with their Floppy Disco in low.
The Irresistible Force are Morris Gould and Des de Moor and they both perform a variety ol roles within this set-up - programmers, DJs, producers, remlxers and you’ll have to decide lor yoursell whether they're musicians or aural terrorists. it’s unlikely you’ll have heard either oi the two singles they’ve released in their own right, particularly the first single ‘I Want To’ - an avant-garde sampling mix about the joys of gay sex which proved to be a bit ol a hot potato, and was ellectlvely banned by shops and distributors. they‘ve done for some very diverse acts. Lloyd Cole’s ‘Perlect Skin’ (ii-side of ‘My Bag’), Stump’s ‘Charlton Heston’ or Edward II and the Red Hot Polka’s ‘Swedlsh Polka’ have all been stripped to the bare bones, cut up and re-stitched like Frankenstein‘s monster by the two sampling (mad?) scientists giving them all a new lease ol lite.
Since then they've been working on their Floppy Disco set which will be a unique no-singlng all-dancing perlormance leaturlng original programmed dance material and digitised live remixes at current but cuts and classics (not forgetting the occasional slice or two 01 the good old analogue tumtablel). It you move quickly you’ll be able to see the show at the Sub Club on Friday 29 September, Fury Murrys on Saturday or The Choice on Sunday. The tour also includes lour daytime shows at the Scottish Music Fair at the SECC on the Saturday and Sunday. (Colin Steven)
