There will be no exhibitions in September as theatrical shows are taking centre stage until 30 Sept. when the Tramway is taken over by the Terror'thon for one night only. Glasgow Print Studio are organising this sumptuous audio-visual feast which promises to relive the events of 1789 in Paris. Perhaps. in keeping with the Gallic
theme. there is a strange feeling ofdt‘jti vu '
pervading the idea ofcelebratingthe bicentenary of the Revolution.

This exhibition looks at Munch'sown photography and examines the effect of photography on his work as a painter. though ultimately the exhibition is dominated by his powerful. highly-charged paintings and lithographs. Raymond Mason: Sculptures and Drawlngs 23 Sept—12 Nov. One of the most popular figurative sculptors still working. Mason has an international reputation based on the public monuments that he has undertaken for Paris. Washington and Montreal. Ilis large scale works create dramatic tableaux drawn from ordinary situations.

Scottish Art Slnca1ooo Until 24 Sept. Far more of the national collection is on show than ever before. with the entire Gallery given over to this exhibition which traces the development of Scottish Art through the 20th century. taking as its twin poles of reference the early Colourists and the aggressively figurative painters ofthe 19805. Unfortunately the exhibition is unadventurous in its choice of painters and paintings. and provides little space for three-dimensional work or photography. After this monster effort the permanent exhibition will return with the emphasis. not surprisingly on non Scottish artists.

Alistair Hall has recently returned from Down Under and his work in mixed media is a personal response to the great outdoors. Roland Wallis‘ Moroccan series ‘Looking for Bogart‘ is based on observations of tourists in North Africa whilst lngy Smith‘s work is drawn from her round-thc-world trip.
