Glasgow’s streets haven’t been sate recently. . . you can't go anywhere without being conironted by day-glo posters screaming the cryptic message at ‘5 WEEKS To GD', ‘4 WEEKS TO 60’, etc, orthe ratherslmpler ‘7’. At the moment we‘ve only ‘2 WEEKS To GD’ - 2 weeks to what? Who is responsible tor sending hall at Glasgow insane? Well, I can now put you out olyour misery by revealing it’s all those Slam boys' tault. After an exhausting summer of taking their club all over Scotland they’re bringing the intlatable spaceman out at his box one last time for the ‘splashdown’ party at the Tramway theatre on 23 September. You‘d have thought they’d have ditiiculty climaxing the touraitersome memorable nights, butwith some notable PAs and DJs it should be a night to remember. The PAs include Double Trouble and the Rebel MC, who played an excellent set on the opening
night at the tourat the WlnterGardens, Mark the 45 King (a recording artist in his own right who also produces and remixes. Notable credits include Doug E. Fresh’s ‘Cutthat Zero!’ and Eric B and Rakim's ’Mlcrophone Fiend’) and waltlor it. . . lnnerClty! This lsa major coup and it should be worth going just to see Inner City play one at only two Scottish dates. The regular Slam DJs, 0rde and Stuart, will be assisted by Graeme Park and Mike Pickering lrom the Hacienda and Cesare DJ lrom the British rap group the Stereo MCs.
The massive Tramway theatre should prove to be an excellent venue for the occasion, with lots of room lorthe hundreds oi clubbers expected from all over Britain. The barwill be licensed until 3am and Schlitz will be £1 a can all night (why isn't It lree?), candy iloss (7) will be available as well but don’t have any belore you go on the inlamous NASA weightlessness simulator! Tickets cost £6 (£9 for Edinburgh, including ‘luxury coach return travel’) and are available lrom Fopp and Virgin in Glasgow and Edinburgh, the Rock Garden, the Liquor Shack and the City Cale.
Fun and games go on until 7am and after that you could have a nice quiet Sunday, but it you’re a 24 hour party person you’ll be at the Plaza Ballroom at 3pm lorthe second Revolution all nighter. DJs include Judge Jules (atop London DJ I'm reliably intormed), Segun, Bob Jettries, Kevin Wilson, Scott Gibson, Boney and it's going to be a busy weekend lorthe Slam boys as they’re due to make an appearance as well —just keep the black coffee handy lads! (Colin Steven)
I Buster Browns 10pm—4am. £2.25. Half price admission and drinks before 11pm. Worth a visit on Sunday if you‘ve not been before.
I Cinderellas Rockerlellas 9.30pm-lam. £1.50. Dress. along with atmosphere.is relaxed for this end of weekend outing.
I Melting Pot at The Red Hot Pepper Club. 10pm—3am. £1.50 before 11.30. £2.50 after. Aiming for an internaiclub night. the Melting Pot offers heavy dance to an enthusiastic regular crowd.
I Moshpit at the Venue. 10pm—3am. Regular live bands and supporting Thrash/Speed disco make for an abrasive end to the weekend. With a few recent scoops as far as bands to. it‘s not a bad place to find yourselfof a Sunday.
MONDAYS Glasgow
I The Alhambra 31 Waterloo Street. 221 3260. 8.30pm—midnight. Free. 60s and705 sounds. Cheap spirits.
I The Breeze at Henry Afrikas. 11pm—3.30am. Complicated: staggered door prices are in operation here. so let’s just say if you come early enough you get in for nothing. and the later you come the more expensive it becomes. There will be drinks promotions and the DJ is somewhat ’original' shall we say!
I Club X at the Warehouse. 11pm—3.30am. £2. Thankfully this new night has nothing to do with the dreadful programme of the same name on Channel 4!
I Freewheelln' at Fury Murrys. 11pm-3.30am. £1 .50. A genuinely wide variety ofcult music from the 60s. 705and 805. breathing life into Glasgow‘s notoriously dull Monday nights.
