Writers Workshop Mon 4 Sept. 7.30pm. The popular fortnightly Cumbernauld Writers‘ Workshop begins its autumn season of scribbling with a line-up of speakers. talks and competitions. New members are very welcome to turn up on the night.

The ever-popular Hull Truck Theatre Company come direct from the Edinburgh Fringe with Jane Thornton‘s new play taking a look behind-the-scenes in the glamour industry. It's at its best when exposing the stupidity ofwalking up and down in silly clothes for a living and there are some good performances. but some of the script is a little uninspired.

The Bevellers Thurs 7—Sat 9 Sept. 7.30pm. £3.50 (£2.50). Roddy McMillan's second play is set in a glass bevelling workshop where a fresh-faced new-boy becomes victim to his workmates' pranks. Performed by West End Theatre.
The Gorbals Story Wed l3—Sat to Sept. 7.30pm. £2. East Kilbride RepTheatrc Club. 34 years old and one of the biggest in the country. are the latest company to revive Robert McLeish‘s 1946 portrait of Glasgow tenement life. It is a tribute to EK Rep that his son has given permission for them to stage the play.

lntemational Festival of Writing Sun 3 Sept. 12.30pm—5pm. Part of an ambitious weekend of talks. discussions and readings by writers from all over the world. The topic for today‘s discussions is Against Racism and Apartheid. The Festival will be followed up next year with a five day event in April and a whole fortnight in September.

Clyde Nouveau L'ntil Sunday 17 Sept. 7.30pm. £5 (£2) £4 (£1 ). lainlleggie's latest play returns from the Edinburgh International Festival in a production by the Tron Theatre Company. lleggie's language is as terse and alive as ever. but the plot about an ex-con trying logo straight in upwardly mobile Glasgow. is perhaps a little obtuse. Certainly well worth a look. especially in the more favourable surrounds of the Tron.
