DNESDAY 23 I La Carrera (BBCZ) 6.50-7.30pm. ‘La Carrera' is a car race. inaugurated in 1950 to celebrate the opening ofthe Pan-American Highway. Recently reinstated. it has become a parade of Fifties and Sixties cars as well as a race. When actress Gillian Elisa played the part ofan ‘Anna Jones' for the camerasto follow. she was nonetheless competing on the 2.000-mile trail for real.
I A Family Apart (BBCZ) 8. 10—9pm. How one family has had to come to termswith Huntington's Chorea. and with the uncertainty of knowing whether they have inherited a disease which has only a 50per cent chance of being passedon.
I Dangerous Lives ((‘4) 830—9. 15pm. The major disasters in British industry have been well covered. but this six-parter looks at some of the less-publicised aspects of health and safety in the workplace — and comes up with some shocking results. The first subject under the microscope is the coal industry.
I Screenplay: The Spirit of Man (BBCZ) 9.25-- 10.30pm. A trilogy ofcomic plays on ‘man‘s thirst for faith‘ begins in medieval France. where an accused witch (Dylis Laye) turns the tables on her inquisitors. The following plays. over the next fortnight. move location to 17th century England and 19th century Eastern Europe. and star Nigel Hawthorne and Iain Cuthbertson respectively.

I Crimewatch File (BBCI)9.30—1(). 10pm. Reconstruction of the manhunt that tracked down Andrew Longmire. the perpetrator of numerous rapes and assaults over seven years in the North of England.

I Ouadrophenia (Scottish) 12.20—2. 10am. Powerful. unexpectedly good recreation of the Mod era. starring Phil Daniels as the totally wired dead-end office-boyaspiring ace face.
