CINOERELLAS ROCKERFELLAS
99 St Stephen Street, Edinburgh. Starting in late August, Cinderellas plan to host regular live acts most Friday nights. Kicking oil the lirst night, Trouble Shooters make the PA, iollowed on subsequent evenings by The Indian leers, The River Detectives, Hearts And Minds and the Wild RiverAppies.
The surprisingly good quality 01 the acts and the tact that they are predominantly Scottish, shows a positive promotional approach lrom Cinderellas. Bands interested in a live slot are encouraged to send tapesor prelerably discs to be given dance iloor reactions. This may evoke memories oi Monday nights in the Antiquary games room, iollowed by a stroll along to Titlany’s (the old Cinderellas) to catch bands like the Gang ol 4/Pere Ubu, lggy and the 852s.
As well as the live gig nights, Cinderellas is going all out to tempt their clubbers with a variety oi special attractions. In conjunction with the venue Warner Bros leature a Movie Night with Batman on 12 August. A stack oi the Dark Knight’s paraphernalia is lined up for instant competitions plus a Kahlua extravaganza.
0n 4 August, an older and apparently wiser Christine Keeler makes an appearance. Attending a private
Palace party in the early evening at the Stockbridge nightclub, she guests a special evening later on promoting the new Scandal video.
Let’s lace it, with the movie theme nights and bands playing live, the venue only needs a play and a book to quality ior every section in The List.

NIGHT BUZZ FROM EDINBURGH
Ju-Ju at Wilkie House on 5 August supplies, along with their compulsive mix oi Hip-Hop, Salsa/Soul and Garage sounds, a live appearance by Richie Rich, grouped with Soul II Soul and Inner City, as one oi Britain’s ioremost purveyors oi solid dance music. A packed house will keep the Saturday
club leaping into the small hours.
Another mammoth all-nighter in the same vein as the recent Venue success takes place at Calton Studios on 28 July. Both iloors are being used to provide extra turntables ior guest DJs irom London, Glasgow and our very own DJ, Yogi. Double Trouble and the Rebel MC, riding high irom their recent club/chart success ‘Just Keep On Rockin’ ' are the main scoop oi the night, with the most adventurous lighting system in Edinburgh giving ample back-up.
Great things are planned tor the Festival from a whole spectrum oi clubs. Club Sandino provides soul iood and moral iibre to thousands in Madisons and Liberty's, next to the Playhouse. Three years on, now more than ever, Sandino is a must to visit as the club that captures the real Festival spirit. The appearance oi Fringe celebrities and DJs lrom Ronnie Scotts, London Pirate Station, Kiss FM, and the Wag make it irresistible.
On a smaller scale, Mainly Motown moves to the Mission tor three nights in August, bringing its popularsoul/iunk disco to the centre oi town. Another club night dedicated to the Smiths is planned ior 21 August—lull details next issue.
