I Silly Season: The Gilded Balloon Tron Theatre. 63 Trongate. Glasgow. 552 4267. 7.30pm. £4 (£1)/£5 (£2). A great chance to see Jenny Lecoat and Maria Callous before their stint at the Assembly Rooms in the Edinburgh Fringe. Lecoat isa familiar face on the cabaret circuit. specialising in music and stand-up. Callous. meanwhile. has a sharp line in put-downs in her pacy set. Completing the line-up are The Sirens. Glasgow‘s own acapella singers who cover everything from funk to blues.

I Silly Season: The Gilded Balloon Tron Theatre. 63 Trongate . Glasgow. 552 4267. 7.30pm. £4 (£l)/£5 (£2). Literally a family show tonight. as husband and wife Jeremy Hardy and Kit Hollerbach run through their (separate) routines. Hardy manages to be endearing and hard-hitting at the same time. ably giving the impression that he could happily go on being witty all night. Hollerbach‘s American style is more forthright. but just as funny and it will be interesting to see ifshc has anything to say about her involvement with the new Batman movie.

_ NEW DEMONS

.(-ng3 ;

La La La Human Steps Theatre Royal, Glasgow. Bun ended. The house lights are still up. There is an unexpected blast of heavy Indian spiced electric guitar while two dancers hurl themselves across the stage, magnetically repelled and attracted to each other. Four minutes laterthe curtain abruptly falls. La La La Human Steps make a powerful entrance.

The initial impact is sustained throughout the performance with well-wrought choreography augmented by the compelling music of the West India Company and the sublime voice of Priya Khajuria. Athletic Louis Lecavalier dominates the stage defying gender categorisation with her curious mixture of masculine physicality beneath a delicate exterior. The aim is to abstract the human body out of its normal identity.

Edouard Lock is the inspiration behind all this. Along with other engaging devices he makes brilliant use oifilm, projecting huge images onto a virtually transparent screen, which dwarfthe dancers behind, so that they seem to dance within the moving picture. This is theatre which takes risks, not always with complete success, but always generating originality and ultimately a new dance language. (Jo Roe).
