MAYHEM WITH MARGO
A new Scottish Television series ol topical discussions is due to commence on Thursday 27 July.
. Hosted by Margo MacDonald. each of
the six programmes will havetwo guests kicking oilthediscussion—cum argumentto whichthe audience are often encouragedto chuckintheirten bobs‘ worth. hence the working title ‘Mayhem with Margo'. This mayhave to be dropped it the audiences behave themselves too much, but jolly Mrs Sillars keptanappropriatelyloose rein whilstskiltully maintaining a semblance of direction as the audience debate waxed liery. Or at least such was the case during the show I sat in on —Politics and Music: (other programmestackle Politics asrelated

to showbiz. the media, sex etc). Featured guests were Jesse Rae. the oft-spoken patriot, clad as always in histrusty. notto mention inconspicuous Celtic warriorouttit (circa 982 AD) andasurprisingly nervous. though personable as ever. Ken Livingstone. Altertheirinteresting polite conversation the audience got downtothe nitty gritty. Alively debate ensued about Red Wedge. Pat Kane. Irish music. Dylan and many. many more. Those masters otpresentation. the young Conservatives. were erudite. smartlydressed. witty and olcourse completely wrong aboutalmost everything whilethe Left'sline was more diffuse. Billy Sloane proved that he was notjusta pudgylace. eloquently expressing some heartlelt and informative views aboutthe superliciality olmuch political popand the mindlessness otbigoted parades. Because mostaudience members alignedthemselvestoa political position, music itseltwas rather eclipsed: onlyreceiving itsdeserved primacy over the pomp and pisstalking that is politics by a suitably righteous butsilver—tongued quasi—anarchistina leailierjacket. Butthen, thatwas me. . Stewart Hennessey)
