I The Marche Noir in Eyre Place is on the up-and-up. New chefs Laurent de la Torre (head chef) and James Davie are if anything even better and more inspired than previous incumbents (ex-head chefMorna Macdonald is now working in llong Kong). They've only been in occupation for a couple of weeks but are rapidly getting into their stride.

I Brian oonn'n ollhe Edinburgh Oyster Bars has bought the old three-storey warehouse opposite Bannermans in the Cow-gate. with plans to open an 'Old Town Oyster Bar' if all goes well (no date yet). Let‘s hope the weird beer policy extends to this one (watch out Pelican).
I Mr Chowdhury ol the ever- trendy Indian Cavalry Club in Atholl Place has acquired the premises next to the Marche Noir (most recently Scots Restaurant) in Eyre Place. and hopes to open the ‘New Town (‘avalry (‘Iub‘. Mr (‘howdhury was an economics lecturer before going into'the restaurant business. so presumably knows when it's sensible to expand and invest.
I Drew Larg. once chef at Madogs. has bought the New York Ste'am Packet
in Rose Street Lane and will be taking possession sometime in July (due to open 1 August).
. The numerous fans of one of Edinburgh’s best French restaurants Plane Victolre in Victoria Street. will be pleased to hear that a new venue has been added to the menu. No longer will we have to quell gastronomic fantasies and be turned away. The first venue covered a staggering average of 100 people a night. a figure now doubled. Pierre Victoire Mark II. at 8 Union Street. opened on 22 June and is serving from noon—1am. Run by the same staffand following the same menu. which changes every day. the new place has a sumptuous selection of imaginatively balanced dishes for very reasonable prices.
