In a country like Scotland, a few days of clear sky and sunshine is enough to make anyone Ieel festive. So springtime is certainly an awakening Iorthe Scottish festival season, which of course culminates in three weeks in August.
Even before Maytest had sailed its paper boat off into a cheery Clyde sunset. Edinburgh’s Spring Fling was well underway, with the four hectic days of the Fringe Film Festival not far behind. This fortnight, two more Festivals vie for the public‘s attention, at both ends of the M8.

GLASGOW HERITAGE WEEK

Gordon Borthwick of the National Trust describes the week as ‘a crash course in Glasgow's history’ The oldest exhibit is an Iron Age dugout, which proves, he says, that boats were built on the Clyde long before the industrial revolution.
There are talks, walks, exhibitions, bus rides and film shows on a wide range of topics from street games to Roman occupations, from Cliff Hanley‘s ‘My Glasgow' to World War II American Gls, 90 per cent of whom are said to have passed through Glasgow. CHAIGMILLAH FESTIVAL
reaches its 25th anniversary this year, which it will be celebrating with a Fancy Dress Cavalcade along Niddrie Mains Drive at 1 .15pm on Sat 3. Awide variety of events take place overthe lollowing fortnight, including plays, exhibitions, karate, a children’stalent show, video and poetry festivals, a special disabled/abIe-bodied barbecue andjazz night.
The theme this year is the People‘s Festival, though Craigmillar Festival has always been an event to which anyone can contribute and from which everyone can benefit.
