LA TRAVIATA Scottish Opera open their summer season with what promises to be a stunning new production oi Verdi’s La Traviata. Alter great success with Madam Butterfly. director Nuria Espert (see photo) returns with one oi her irequent collaborators. designer Ezio Frigerio and Scottish Opera's John Mauceri conducting. Another Scottish Opera lind, the young American soprano Nancy Gustaison, sings the role oi the courtesan, Violette, with compatriot Jorge Pita playing opposite her as Allredo. Opens Glasgow Tuesday 25, with iurther Theatre Royal periormances on 29 April, 5, 26 May, 3 June and traniers to Edinburgh’s Playhouse ior only two periormances on 13 and 17 June.
Best known as Carmen in the Theatre des Bouffes du Nord production of Peter Brook‘s highly acclaimed version of Bizet‘s opera. Helen Dclavault sings La Republicaine. a look at the satirical and militant songs of the time of the French Revolution and music from the two centuries that follow. both popular and classical.
