An exhibition based on Kathleen Fidler's book which tells of the plight of a crofting family evicted from Sutherland during the Highland Clearances. their move to Glasgow and ‘desperate journey‘ to a new life in Canada.
Behind the Scenes 17 Apr— 20 Aug. Collecting. conservation and interpretation — find out what goes on in these three main areas ofthe museum‘s work. Visitors can have a go at determining the history of variousobjects. There are quiz sheets and a ‘guess the link' competition for budding curators.

George the bearded
dragon doesn‘t sound quite so cuddly the polar bear cub. but he is on hand along with Fifi the fantail pigeon and other small friends at the animal-handling classes. held on the hour from 11am—4pm every weekend. Not attending classes but back on parade are the penguins doingtheir famous daily Penguin Parade.

Only a iruit and nut case would miss visiting the National Exhibition oi Children’s Art, the world’s largest exhibition oi its kind, which is on display in the City oi Edinburgh Art Centre, 7 Apr—1 2 May. The sponsors, Cadburys Ltd, received 50,000 entries, with the highest proportion coming irom Scotland. 1000 works oi art, crait and poetry by children nationwide will be on display with pride oi place given to Scottish artists at the one Scottish
Free. Not just pigs and poultry, there‘s lots going on the the Farm Kitchen and Craft Workshops too.

Just under 200 oi the poems submitted have been chosen tor a collection, Cadbury’s Sixth Book oi Children’s Poetry (Beaver Books, £2.50). The poems are written by children aged 5 to 17 years and the book is illustrated with some oi the art work irom the exhibition.
