Passing character actor Jack Weston supplies the comic book villainry.

The Devil hears of this and decides to try to tempt him down. Familiar religious satire from the mischevious old Spaniard. Unfortunately the money ran out. I Someone To Love ( 15) (Henry Jaglom. US. 1987) Orson Welles. Henry Jaglom. Andrea Marcovici. Michael Emil. 105 mins. Jaglom himself plays a divorced film-maker going through a frustrating relationship. When his brother admits to similar emotional difficulties he decides to throw a party where he will film the gusts talking over the problems of romance in the post-feminist era. Among those who turn up is Orson Welles. who offers advice and consolation.
As is the direction of his career oflate (Can She Bake (1 Cherry Pie .Always) Jaglom here plays with the possibilities of filmie sclf-dramatisation to often irritating effect. Yet amongst the meandering chit-chat of the central party there is much honest freshness. and the prospect of Welles final amiable. sad performnce alone makes the film worth seeing. sluggisth paced in places and slightly
ove rlong. the film delivers a few crisp jolts and is held together by Scott‘s wallow in Manhattan chic and the very creditable central performances. Tentative proof that a human heart can beat beneath this director's hi-tech glitz. Glasgow: GF'I‘.

Scientists on an Antarctic research station thaw out an alien creature able to change its shape and horribly murder humans. Extraordinary effects in this tense shocker which utilises the central gimmick from the original short story in the way that the 1950 version did not. Edinburgh: Cameo.

A trio ofsmug. womanisinglads share a bachelor apartment. but the arrival on their doorstep of the offspringof one of their careless affairs is soon to wreak havoc with their chic macho lifestyle.
Fine if you have a sentimental. undemanding critical faculty and a love of lavatorial humour. otherwise forgettable mainstream fodder and a fairly unaccountable box office success. Strathclyde: AMC Clydebank 10.

Coppola's best film in years charts the rise and fall ofPreston Tucker. a naive but ingenious auto engineer who in 1948 managed to produce a car so technically advanced that it scared the Detroit majors into action. Before long their ties with the political powers-that-be created a set of trumped-up fraud charges that were to dissolve Tucker‘s dream of affordable. safe motoring in a welter oflitigation.
Jeff Bridges excels himselfin the title role. and old lag Martin Landau steals some of the spotlight With an endearing portrayal of his curmudgeonly accountant. but this is Coppola‘s movie. where he at last re-unites his stylish technique with a grasp of narrative control in a manner that brings back memories of the great Hollywood productions of old.
