FINNISH DESIGN
New Work irom Finland, Royal Museum oi Scotland, Edinburgh—see Design.
This is a very adequate ii unspectacular show containing few surprises about the sort oi work you would expect trom
Finland. Ii ialls into two halves: architectural photographs and drawings displayed on rather ilimsy screens, and a wide variety oi arteiacts well laid out on low, wooden trestle tables. About halt a dozen chairs set out at various points, complete the show.
Most oi the objects are lor everyday use: ever more slendertelephones, big black television sets, rather bland ceramics and glasswear. The general aesthetic is natural materials, clean-cut geometric shapes and absence oi pattern. It’s not unattractive, but it is just a little too cool. (Sally Kinnes)
