Do people in this country sometimes , misjudge the girls because ol’their origin and aceent‘.’
‘I think they do. and I think that‘s a really dtnnb stereotype. We were watching TV this tnorning and there was something about British hooligans. And I thought. y'know. il Americans saw this they'd think that all British guys ol‘ a certain age w ere like that. l cansee wherestereotypes get created. especially in the media.
Bttt back to the Beehiy e story. Alter tray'elling around a while. and being less than enamoured with the idea of returning to the States. Tracey decided to stay in Britain. the combination oi new triends and ‘a lot ol'good bands that l loyed‘ being too mttch to pass up. In time. .‘ylelissa joined her. and once settled. the sisters met Mike Jones. the Beehiy'e‘s guitar and keyboard player through l'riends w ho pointed him out and told them about the recording studio in .‘ylike‘s house. just down the street l‘rom them. Then their new-lound management suggested Woody and Bedders. the rhythm section l‘rom the del'unct .‘V‘ladness (‘Woody neyer really talks about those days'). and The Voice ()ti'l'hc Beehiye started ll'Olll there. Apart from Martin Brett. who took over the role (it bassist when Bedders left for his own proiect. Buttert'ield 8. it's the same group that made [ml [1 Br’t'. ‘.\'o. I think it‘s a lot easier than with girls. Delinitely. I think they don't complain as much. y"know. 'l'here not as l'ragile. or whatey er you want to say. I find guys in general easier to get on w ith than git'ls.'

Maybe what she means is that her sister's the biggest complainer in the band.

Tickets are reportedly selling well for the DMD benelitat Edinburgh‘s Meadowbank stadium. ‘Festival ForA Nuclear Free Scotland‘, on Saturday 6. and the organisers must be praying that the rain gods will chooseto plague some other part of the country. Festivities commence at 113m. which isthetime alwhich Aztec Camera have requested to go on, despite being one ol. it not the major attraction on the bill. besides Aswad who. alter more than a decade as the toughest ol reggae bands on the circuit have shown their hit-making potential at last. This must be good news for the smaller acts on the bill, like The Mighty - Lemon Drops and The Soup Dragons, who can anticipate lull houses (near

enough) for their sets. The Soup Dragons did theirdamnedest to make their appearance on the last series of FSD as memorable as possible. but little has been heard oi The Mighty Lemon Drops sincetheir black-leathered psychedelic excursions into post-punk Liverpool. so it should at least prove interesting to see where their heads are at now (man).
As tor the effervescent Voice Dl The Beehive we can do no more than direct you to the leature on the lelt, but Deacon Blue. whose new single ‘Chocolate Girl' looks like it could be a sizeable hit, have always seemed to be the kind ol band who would be at their best it they successlully rose to the challenge ol playing a venue this size.
it you‘re overtaken by a last-minute urge to buy a ticket. they‘re available lor£11.50 at Virgin and Ripping in Edinburgh, and Lost In Music and Just The Ticket. Glasgow.
