W.A.S.P.S Shop and Information Centre 22 King Street, Glasgow

King Street is becoming quite a corner lor art in Glasgow's east end. The Glasgow Print Studio has just opened a new gallery at No. 22 and runs a print shop across the road. Transmission Gallery is round the corner in Chisholm Street with the Tron Theatre smack in the middle of the King Street/Parnie Street block.

W.A.S.P.S. (Workshop and Artists Studio Provision Scotland Limited) have already two floors of studios at 22 King Street above the Print Studio and have now just branched out with a shop/information centre for the benefit of their clients throughout Scotland.

By the end at this year w.A.S.P.S. will be serving at least 300 artists. Administering, renovating and discovering studios will remain this non-prolit-making organisation’s main business, but the shop now allows help in other directions. As a retail outlet, it can help both painters and designers sell theirwork. The front shop is laid outwith jewellery, hand-painted T-shirts, cards and ceramics while the back shop shows paintings. There will be a permanent, changing display of work by W.A.S.P.S. artists.

The old ironmongery is painted blue and white and now ready for business. As a beginning it all has promise, but it’s a pity that the W.A.S.P.S. shop is not open on Saturdays. (Alice Bain)
