Richard Hamilton has been one of Britain's leading artists for oyer thirty years. Made up ofthree rooms and a foycrdownstairs and an exhibition of prints on the themeot JamesJoy cc's Ulysses. this exhibition shows this position unchanged. One room contains a portrait of the Irish hunger striker in a cell. another the foyer oi a hotel and next to that a yideo ofMargaret Thatcher dispensing politics in an operating room. Though the latter w as made in 1984. it still has aehilling reference to the present. Richard Hamilton blends his skill ascommunicator with fine art. Talk Fri 29 Apr. 6. I5pm. 'I‘homaslaw son. artist and writer liying in New York. will give an illustrated talk on the Pop Art Moyement in America and Britain.

The Eardley Archive From 7 May. Last year. Mrs. PM. Black. Joan liardlcy's sister gay e the gallery nearly 25(lsketches by the artist who captured the spirit ofthe (‘atterline landscape as perfectly as the crooked little faces of ( iorbals' urchins. An exhibition ofsorne of this work will be displayed in commemoration of the artist‘s death 25 years ago. A book (Joan liardlcy' 5.2.95) is to be published as part of the Scottish Masters series.
Permanent collection also on show. Some rooms may be closed due to redecoration. but Richard Long's Stone Line lined up with the fireplaces in the large central gallery is well worth a yisit. Beth Shadur L'ntil 30 Apr. This American muralist returns to Scotland from America with an exhibition of drawings and watercolours. She will also be working in the gallery with drug groups on a new mural.

The new gallery for works on paper is opened with a splash of the best in the collection. The first 50 will be show it until July. the second 50 from August.
Redecorations and Restrictions L'ntil the end of June. the redecoration programme. begun w ith the red room last year. will continue in the main ground-floor galleries. The idea is to recall the spiritof the period in which the gallery was built and its architect Sir William I’layfair.

Researched with characteristic thoroughness. its attention to detail is well-rewarded by the anecdotes it brings to light.
