THROB
Throb at Secrets, Rooftops: Every Thursday 10.30pm-2.30am. £1 .50. Throb, atthe time ofwriting, only three weeks old, must qualify forthe newest club in Glasgow award. It is also the only club in Glasgow specialising in the music and ideas of ‘Thee Temple ov Psychik Youth'. Bands, such as Psychic TV, Coil, Nurse With Wound, Death In June, Current 93 and Throbbing Gristle are complemented by Laibach, SPK and other such luminaries.
The music is mostly violent dance with heavy staccato rhythms. The first night attracted a large crowd. Practially everyone with an interest in these bands in the Glasgow area turned up the night I went.
By the end condensation was running down the walls. It was so humid that even breathing was difficult. So those who were still dancing at 2am (and
there were many) must be admired. A few goths turned up but needless to say they haven't returned. It must be admitted that the crowds have
lessened since night one, but the music remains excellent. My only complaint is that sometimes the music can become repetitive. Other than that it is an excellent night out.
The organisers of Throb hope to set up a network of similarly-minded people with the aim of organising gigs, bands, etc, and for the exchange of ideas, audio-visual material and literature. For more information contact: S-P-‘31', 175 Wilton Street, Glasgow GZD, enclosing a SAE. (Peter Dickie)
