Nothing revolutionary here. just an acceptably pleasant comedy-drama that affectionately lampoons the movie business and updates Alda's running celluloid commentary on the self-deceptive foibles of human relationships. Agrophobic detective Stewart retires from the force and is engaged privately to follow a woman with whom he falls hopelessly in love. An audacious mystery and a classic study of male perversity. Americanisation of l l.(i. Wells' story of alien invasion has remarkably impressive special effects but a dull script. and the saccharine religiosity of the ending doesn‘t help much either. Resolutely dull African sexual shenanigans. lackadaisically acted and dreadfully slow. which manages to make what sounds like quite intriguing source material into a cold and lumpy puddingof a movie. Vastly enjoyable. bittersweet treatment of the sexual mores ofdays gone by with an energetic performance from perky newcomer Lloyd. Strathclydc; Odeon Ayr. After demeaning experiences in the Prussian army. a conscript is driven to near mania by the adulterous behaviour of his wife. Impressive melodrama with Klaus as intense as ever.
