Dreyfuss falls for her so we get a little moral dilemma with our romance, then the bad boydfriend returns and we get a shoot-'em-up finale.
The undemanding viewer might call all this classical American cop movie material, but the cynic might complain tht it's singularly formulaic stuff offering routine comedy and action highlights. bift-bang-pow side of things and probably saves the film from outright tedium in the process.
Forthe rest of the running time, Madeleine Stone cooks a lot when she's not taking her clothes off (do we detect a little sexual stereotyping here?), Estevez looks far too young for his part, and Quinn seethes with the intensity of a man who wishes he had a bigger part. OK, so the suspense situations are slickly handled, but the climactic gun battle in a sawmill is probably only marginally more exciting than the harbour showdown the film-makers originally closed the movie with before extensive re-shootlng. Oh, and there‘s a funny bulldog called Winston. Things have got to be pretty bad when a film needs a comic dog, and a film critic ends up writing about it because he can’t really remember much else.
