A flawed but spectacular staging by Robert David MacDonald of his own translation of Schiller‘s 18th-century drama about the Maid of Orleans. Setting the action not in medieval France but in 19405 occupied France, MacDonald opens up a new, challenging angle on the play’s themes. The set is remarkable and there are fine performances, particularly from Charon Bourke as Joan and Laurance Rudic as the Dauphin. Well worth seeing.
